Albany, N.Y. - Junior Lauren Bates posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Livia Gherman at No. 1 singles and teamed up with Emma Leibowicz for a doubles win to lead Binghamton to a 7-0 sweep of UAlbany in America East Conference tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at University Courts.
Binghamton took all three doubles matches, paced by Bates and Liebowicz's 8-1 win over Susan Ma and Aubrey Brooks at the second position. Anna Edelman and Marina Bykovskaya defeated Gherman and Laine Mackey, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Jillian Santos and Yulia Smirnova posted an 8-0 win over Melissa Coughlin and Sarah Iannone at third doubles.
In singles action, Ma dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Edelman at the No. 2 spot, while Santos recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mackey at the third position. Smirnova posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Caitlin Crowley at fourth singles and Brooks fell to Bykovskaya, 6-2, 7-5. Liebowicz rounded out the sweep for Binghamton, defeating Iannone, 6-2, 6-1.
UAlbany will return to action on Friday, visiting Massachusetts for a non-conference match at 2 p.m.
