RICHMOND - Following a game-wrecking performance in UAlbany's 45-35 victory over #15 Campbell, senior defensive lineman
Shawan Lewis has been named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
Lewis, a native of Baltimore, put on a defensive masterclass at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium, spearheading a Great Danes front that stymied one of the top offenses in the country. The senior wreaked havoc in the Campbell backfield all afternoon, racking up 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and seven total tackles.
Â
His 3.5 sacks set a new UAlbany single-game high for the 2026 season and proved instrumental in stalling multiple Campbell drives as the Great Danes improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in CAA play.
Â
Through nine games this season, Lewis anchors a fierce UAlbany defensive unit with 29 total tackles, a team-leading 12.0 tackles for loss (72 yards), and 9.5 sacks (68 yards).
Â
This marks the fourth consecutive game in which a UAlbany player has earned CAA weekly honors. Running Back
Rahshan La Mons was named Special Teams Player of the Week following UAlbany's Homecoming win over Delaware State, while linebacker
Victor Holt collected defensive honors following UAlbany's Golden Apple win over Stony Brook.
Jamari Young (defense) and La Mons (offense) collected honors last week after UAlbany's win over Rhode Island.
Â
Lewis and the Great Danes hit the road this upcoming Saturday, November 7, traveling to face Bryant. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
