Women's Basketball Set to Host New Hampshire, Maine

ALBANY, N.Y. - The UAlbany women's basketball team has a busy week at home as they host New Hampshire on Thursday and Maine on Saturday.
 
Ahead of Thursday's game against the Wildcats, the UAlbany ticket office is offering a "Buy One, Get One" deal for all union members using code UAUNION. This offer is online only and will not be available on game day (Thursday).

Saturday's contest against Maine is the Great Danes' annual 'White Out'. Be one of the first 500 fans to the game to receive a FREE white t-shirt or wear your own white gear. In addition, the UAlbany ticket office is offering $5 kids tickets (for anyone 12 and under).

LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
  • The Great Danes kicked off the conference season on a high note with wins against Vermont at home and UMass Lowell on the road.
  • In their first conference match-up against the Catamounts, UAlbany was led by Kayla Cooper's 17-point performance in the victory. Coop also totaled three blocks and three steals in the 64-55 decision.
  • The Purple and Gold visited the River Hawks for their second conference contest and won behind three double-digit scorers - Lilly Phillips (15), Kaci Donovan (14), and Cooper (14). Both Phillips and Cooper shot 60% from the field to help the team beat UML, 53-39.
 
GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany ended the non-conference season with just three losses while securing the best 10-game start in Division I history (9-1).
  • The team's first loss of the season came in its crosstown matchup at Siena (12.7). The second two came against Power-Four teams at the end of the calendar year - Wisconsin (12/20) and #6 LSU (12/29).
  • Going undefeated in November, UAlbany earned a double-digit season-opening victory against Rhode Island (11.8) while adding head coach Colleen Mullen's first win over a Power Four (Five) at Syracuse (11.20). Additional wins in November were against Dartmouth (11.13), Sacred Heart (11.16), Cornell (11.23) and RPI (11.27). 
  • The Great Danes added wins against Stonehill (12.1), Boston U (12.10), St. Bonaventure (12.14), and Merrimack (12.16) in December.
  • To kick off the new year and their conference season, the Purple and Gold picked up two wins against Vermont (1.2) and UMass Lowell (1.4).
  • Kayla Cooper leads with 17.2 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, 41 assists, and 24 steals.
  • Kaci Donovan (13.2) and Lilly Phillips (10.5) make it three total Great Danes averaging at least 10 ppg.
  • Junior Gabriela Falcão owns a team-high 17 blocks.
  • As a team, the Great Danes are shooting .453 from the field, with a 35.2% accuracy from downtown, and .776 from the line.
 
MILESTONE WATCH
  • Lilly Phillips tallied her 100th career three-pointer with less than three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter against Vermont.
  • Phillips is nearing two other career milestones - she is eight assists away from 200 in her career and six steals away from 100.
  • Senior Laycee Drake is seven assists away from making it 100 in her career.
 
MAKIN' HISTORY
  • The Great Danes are at the end of a spectacular performance in the non-conference season, fueled by the leadership of head coach Colleen Mullen.
  • After defeating St. Bonaventure on Saturday (12/14), UAlbany sealed the best 10-game start in Division I program history with just one loss. 
  • Previously, the best 10-game start in Division I program history was 8-2, including one season under head coach Colleen Mullen. Five teams earned the 8-2 start: 2012-13, 2013-14, 2015-16, 2017-18, 2023-24.
 
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE
  • The Wildcats concluded their non-conference schedule with a 6-7 record.
  • Both the Wildcats and the Great Danes faced Merrimack, Boston U, Dartmouth, and Stonehill. UAlbany defeated all four opponents while UNH beat all except Merrimack.
  • New Hampshire opened the season with wins against Worcester State (11.4) and UMass (11.7) before adding two more against Northeastern (11.14) and BU (11.16).
  • Throughout the next eight games, the Wildcats beat just two opponents - Dartmouth (12.1) and Stonehill (12.30).
  • The Wildcats began their America East play with two road losses against Bryant (1.2) and Vermont (1.4).
  • Eva DeChent has been a dominant force for the team. She leads with 17.8 points per game while also topping the charts with 26 steals and 8 blocks. 
  • Anchoring the team's playmaking and rebounding efforts, Clara Gomez is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game and dishing out a team-high 35 assists.
  • As a team, the Wildcats are shooting 35.8% from the field, including 25.6% from beyond the arc, and have a free-throw percentage of 78.9%.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE WILDCATS
  • The Great Danes lead the series, 33-18.
  • Current head coach, Colleen Mullen, owns a 12-2 record against UNH during her time with UAlbany. Both losses came in the 2019-20 season with margins of one and three.
  • The Great Danes have remained undefeated against UNH since the 2020-21 season and will tie the longest winning streak against the Wildcats with a win on Thursday.
 
PAST CONNECTIONS
  • Head coach Colleen Mullen both attended and graduated from New Hampshire.
  • Following two years of play at Rhode Island, Mullen concluded her collegiate career as a two-year captain for the Wildcats. Within just two seasons, she achieved the 14th-highest mark in program history with 218 assists as a Wildcat.
 
ABOUT MAINE
  • The Black Bears wrapped up their non-conference slate with a 5-8 record. 
  • Both UAlbany and Maine faced Rhode Island, Boston U, and Stonehill. The Great Danes defeated all three opponents by at least 10 points (URI - 67-57, BU - 72-36, and Stonehill - 80-59). The Black Bears beat Rhode Island (57-53) and Stonehill (87-75) with a loss to BU (67-57).
  • In addition to the wins over URI and Stonehill, Maine defeated La Salle in November and Bates and Coppin State in December.
  • Maine's offense is led by Caroline Bornemann who averages 11.6 points per game. Bornemann also leads the team on the boards - 7.5 rebounds per game. 
  • On the defensive end, four Black Bears have tallied double-digit steals - Asta Blauenfeldt (21), Bornemann (15), Paula Gallego (15), and Olivia Rockwood (13). 
  • Gallego leads with 59 assists - 12 more than second on the team, Blauenfeldt, and 28 more than third - Bornemann.
  • The Black Bears are shooting 42.4% from the floor as a team, including 34.6% from three-point range, and converting 68.9% of their free throws. 
 
SERIES AGAINST THE BLACK BEARS
  • The Black Bears lead the series, 32-23.
  • Current head coach, Colleen Mullen, owns a 4-12 record against Maine during her time with UAlbany.
  • During the 2023-24 season, each team won their home contests and during the 2022-23 season, the Great Danes knocked Maine out of the America East Tournament after beating the Black Bears at the Pit for the AE title in 2022.

  • UAlbany will continue its partnership with ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team and City Line Bar & Grill for the fourth consecutive year.
  • Coaches Colleen Mullen and Dwayne Killings, along with select student-athletes, will join ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team's Dan Bahl and Michael Johnson Jr. every Monday from 6-7 pm live from City Line Bar & Grill for a weekly segment entitled 'Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops'.
  • Fans are invited to come to City Line Bar & Grill to join Coach Mullen, Coach Killings, the student-athletes, and the ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team crew. 
  • Food and drink specials will be available on a weekly basis as the teams embark on their new seasons and talk hoops every Monday.
 
AMERICA EAST STANDINGS
  • One week into the conference season, three teams remain undefeated - UAlbany (2-0), Maine (2-0), and NJIT (1-0).
  • Binghamton, Bryant, and Vermont are even with one loss and one win each.
  • UMBC (0-1), New Hampshire (0-2), and UMass Lowell (0-2) are all looking for their first AE win.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • NJIT's Olivia Kulyk was named Player & Rookie of the Week
    • Finished with career-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds in 58-49 win over Binghamton
    • Helped NJIT finished game on 17-2 run and went 5-for-6 on FT in the last 30 seconds to clinch the win
  • UAlbany looks to start 3-0 in #AEHoops for the fourth straight year
    • UAlbany is 23-3 in the month of January since the start of 2022
    • The Great Danes went 7-0 in January 2024 and started January 2025 with a 64-55 win over Vermont. They were 7-1 in 2023 and 7-2 in 2022.
    • UAlbany is a league-best 12-3 this season and is 37-10 since the start of last year.
  • Vermont is 19-2 at home against conference opponents since the start of the 2022-23 season
    • The Catamounts' two losses were by a combined three points - to Maine (57-55, 2/17/24) and UMBC  (58-57, 1/1/23).
    • UVM has won seven straight against UML.
