Key StatsÂ
Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "We put ourselves in a good position tonight playing well in the first 60 minutes. It gave us an opportunity to experience that game situation and how to handle it. We wanted to keep the clean sheet but overall it's great to get a win over a good Marist team, and we'll look to keep improving heading into two road trips this week."

How it HappenedÂ
- A day later than originally scheduled, the University at Albany men's soccer team hosted Marist after the matchup was delayed due to inclement weather in Albany Friday evening. The series against Marist had been tight in the last six games, all decided by one goal or fewer, despite the Great Danes holding a recent 3-1-0 edge.
- UAlbany opened the match aggressively, outshooting the Red Foxes 7-1 over the first half. The only shot Marist managed was off the mark, leaving Great Danes goalkeeper Shafique Wilson untested in the first 45 minutes.
- In the 17th minute, UAlbany drew one of its 10 corners on the evening. Alex Pechacek stepped up to take the corner, and his serve to the far post found Tiago Dias' head for the first score of the game. Dias had two further scoring opportunities in the first half, but both of his attempts missed the goal high.
- UAlbany maintained the 1-0 lead heading into halftime, having held the Marist offense in check, and keeping the Red Foxes' defense on their toes.
- Pechacek connected with Dias for a second goal in the 54th minute, on another set piece. Once again, Pechacek targeted the far post for Dias running onto the ball to beat Marist goalkeeper Luca Bulfon coming back across the goal to put the Great Danes up 2-0.
- Soon afterwards, in the 57th minute, Pechacek played another corner short to Vasili Papadopoulos, who served the ball into the box. Santiago Frias connected to score his first career goal as a Great Dane.
- UAlbany nearly had a fourth goal in the 67th minute when Bulfon mishandled a retreating pass. Jeff Thielmann charged the loose ball towards the Marist goal but Bulfon was able to play it away before Thielmann could capitalize.
- Marist scored on their next possession in transition on a header off a serve from the right side that beat Wilson near post. The Great Danes' defense disrupted Marist's approach several times but did not take full control of the ball before the goal.
- Marist reversed its offensive woes in the second half, outshooting UAlbany 9-7, but except for their one goal, they only tested Wilson three times. The Great Danes defense held up for the remainder of the game, blocking each of Marist's final five shots before getting to Wilson.
Next: The rescheduling of today's match has also affected the next, and UAlbany will now play at Army West Point on September 12.
