BOSTON – University at Albany freshman
Jonathan Beagle now sits alone atop the Great Danes' record books for the most America East Rookie of the Week titles in team history. Claiming his eighth award after a week in which he recorded two-straight double-doubles, Beagle has officially passed Jon Iati's mark of seven awards set during the 2003-04 season.
Â
In two games this week, Beagle averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds. He first dropped a team-high (tied) 16 points and nabbed 15 rebounds in an 81-74 home victory over UMBC. He followed up his big performance over the weekend with an 18-point, 13 rebound game against Maine. He added eight assists, two blocks, and a steal over the two contests.
Â
This is the second-consecutive week Beagle has been named the conference's Rookie of the Week. Last week, Beagle tied Iati's record of seven after averaging 14 points and nine assists.
Â
Now an eight-time champ, Beagle has claimed the Rookie of the Week title on Nov. 14, Nov. 28, Dec. 27, Jan. 9, Jan. 16, Jan. 23, and Feb. 13 in addition to this week. Last season, men's basketball forward
Justin Neely claimed the award six times before being named the conference's Rookie of the Year.
