Volleyball Hosts Final Home Match

ALBANY, N.Y. -  The UAlbany volleyball team will host New Hampshire for its final home match. 
 
UAlbany's home gym, PE Gym, is down for renovations. All home games during the 2023 season will be played at the Kahl Campus Center on Russell Sage College's Albany Campus. To find the gym, put 44 Academy Rd, Albany, NY into your GPS. For more information, click here.
 
The UAlbany Athletics Department will run a bus for students from the Campus Center to Russell Sage College. The bus will depart at 1:15 pm for the 2 pm start.

LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
  • The Great Danes headed on the road for two four-set losses to Binghamton (10.27) and Bryant (10.29).
  • Redshirt-sophomore Shynelle Woroniuk (15 kills) and junior Sthefany Carvalho (17 digs) led in their respective positions on Friday while sophomore Anna Myhal followed both with 14 kills and 12 digs.
  • On Sunday, senior Elisavet Papageorgiou tallied 17 digs; Carvalho followed with 14. 
  • Myhal (11) and Woroniuk (10) combined for just under half of the Great Danes' kills against Bryant.
 
GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany holds a 7-16 record on the season with a 2-6 America East record.
  • The Great Danes started their season with a three-set sweep over Syracuse (Aug. 25). 
  • Following the win, UAlbany played close sets against Navy (Aug. 26) and UCF (Aug. 27) to close the UAlbany Invitational before falling to 1-5 with three losses at the Chippewa Invitational (Sept. 1-2).
  • Going 1-2 at each of their final regular season tournaments, the Great Danes beat Cornell at the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament (Sept. 8-9) and George Mason at the Patriot Invite (Sept. 15-16).
  • UAlbany won back-to-back matches defeating Siena (Sept. 20) and Sacred Heart (Sept. 27) before beginning conference play.
  • After falling to NJIT (Oct. 1) and Bryant (Oct. 6), the Great Danes earned their first conference victory defeating UMBC (Oct. 8) in five sets. 
  • Conceding defeats to Binghamton (Oct. 15) and New Hampshire (Oct. 20), UAlbany bested NJIT (Oct. 22) for their second conference victory.
  • Falling in their last three matchups, the Great Danes fell to Binghamton (Oct. 27), Bryant (Oct. 29), and LIU (Oct. 31). 
  • Shynelle Woroniuk leads the team with 3.18 kills per set and 3.49 points per set.
  • On defense, Sthefany Carvalho holds the team-high with 3.32 digs per set.
  • Junior Zosia Szczotkiewicz leads the Great Danes with a team-high in aces (27). Carvalho and Elisavet Papageorgiou trail behind with 23 and 21, respectively.
  • Redshirt-freshman Gabriella Karman has recorded 63 blocks this season (1.00/set), including 11 solo blocks, while sophomore Tori Wilson and Kendall Harris trail with 42 and 41, respectively.

  • The Wildcats own a 14-8 record and are 3-3 in conference play.
  • In four non-conference tournaments - the Indiana Invitational (Aug. 25-26), the Harvard Invitational (Sept. 1-2), the Erie Insurance Invitational (Sept. 8-9), and the Jayhawk Classic (Sept. 15-16) - New Hampshire recorded seven wins and five losses.
  • The Wildcats have won all three of their midweek matchups - Boston College (Aug. 30) and Merrimack (Oct. 10 and Oct. 31).
  • New Hampshire earned its first conference victory defeating NJIT (Oct. 8) in straight sets after four-set losses to UMBC (Oct. 1) and Binghamton (Oct. 8).

SERIES AGAINST THE WILDCATS
  • New Hampshire leads the all-time series, 31-30.
  • The two sides met earlier this season with the Wildcats winning in four sets (Oct. 20). 
  • It was a close matchup in each of the sets UAlbany lost. With a three-point difference in the first set, New Hampshire took an extra-point win, 28-26, in the third set before closing with a 25-20 fourth-set win.
  • Shynelle Woroniuk led the offense with 15 kills while Sthefany Carvalho led the defense with 15 digs.
  • Anna Myhal recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs.
  • Freshman Campbell Robinson tallied nine kills and five blocks.
  • As a team, the Great Dane defense was on fire with four student-athletes recording double-digit digs and 10 team blocks.
  • The Great Danes fell to the Wildcats twice last season. 
  • UAlbany last defeated New Hampshire in the 2021 America East semifinal.

  • Binghamton (6-1) and UMBC (5-2) have both clinched a playoff berth, sitting first and second on the conference table respectively. 
  • Bryant trails close behind, only one win behind the Retrievers. 
  • New Hampshire holds a .500 record in the conference. 
  • UAlbany sits outside the top four with a 2-6 record. 
  • NJIT rounds out the conference with only one win through seven conference matches.
