Short Story: UAlbany wins 13 events, breaks four meet records, one school record, and records four Division I top-10 performances to open the 2022-23 indoor track & field season at the Carlton Crowell Invitational.
 
Track Events
  • Gianni Henry and KJ Dawkins swept the top two places in the men's mile, crossing the line in 4:24.15 and 4:24.54, respectively.  Dean Athanailos placed fourth in a personal-best 4:27.33.
  • Skyler Smith and Lejla Hrelja went 2-3 in the women's mile, finishing in 5:18.99 and a personal-best 5:27.77, respectively.  Maria Grijalva placed seventh in 5:54.32.
  • Nicardo Blake and MarcSean Montero went 2-3 in the men's 400, finishing in 50.29 and 50.70, respectively.  John Fermpong placed sixth in 51.71, and Malachi Brown-El placed eighth in 51.93.
  • UAlbany went 4-7 in the women's 400m.  Jysían Addison placed fourth in 1:02.60, followed by Lia Soares in 1:03.41, Renee Baker in and indoor-best 1:03.48, and Ava Morris in a personal-best 1:06.85.
  • Raiden Guialdo won the men's 500m in 1:06.15.  Julio Martinez placed fifth in 1:07.48, and Jabari Barriffe placed sixth in 1:08.65.
  • Toni Galloway won the women's 60m hurdles in a meet-record 8.70.  Kate Del Gandio placed third in 8.91, and Brinesha Derrick-Bain placed fourth in 9.02.
  • Antwone Messado placed second in the men's 60m hurdles in 8.54.  Tino Mancabelli placed sixth in 8.75.
  • Shak Williams led a top-four sweep of the men's 60m, crossing the line in a personal-best, meet-record, and school-record 6.66.  Travis Williams placed second just behind in a personal-best 6.67.  Garry Munro placed third in a personal-best 6.84, Lucas Casab placed fourth in 6.87, and Rashad Hames placed sixth in a personal-best 6.94.
  • Adaliz Hunt placed second in the women's 60m in 7.64.  Rori Lowe placed fifth in 7.77, and Jazmen Newberry placed sixth in 7.85.
  • Elias Bowie placed fourth in the men's 800m in 2:06.50.
  • Alesia Douglas won the women's 800m in 2:24.60.
  • Dawkins and Henry swept the top two places in the men's 1,000m in 2:30.76 and 2:30.82, respectively.  Athanailos placed fifth in 2:43.57.
  • Alondra Cruz-Delgado won the women's 1,000m in 3:06.66.  Hannah Steiner placed third in 3:18.41.
  • Messado placed fourth in the men's 200m in a personal-best 22.98.
  • Hunt placed second in the women's 200m in a personal-best 26.30.  Abiyah Yahudah-Edwards placed fourth in a personal-best 27.16, and Kiarra Hollis placed seventh in 27.48.
  • Brandon Garcia placed third in the men's 3,000m in 8:38.22. 
  • Amanda Chambers won the women's 3,000m in a meet-record and personal-best 9:55.13.  Tess Fitzmaurice placed second in a personal-best 9:59.04, Noreen Guilfoyle placed fourth in 10:41.39, Katie Iocca placed fifth in 10:46.89, and Scarlett Rose placed seventh in 11:06.53.
  • UAlbany's 4x400m men's 'A' team of Montero (51.03) Guialdo (50.36), Easton Reagan (50.74), and Fermpong (51.01) placed second in 3:23.14.  The men's 'C' team of Brown-El (51.79), Quincy Chery (55.75), Martinez (50.85), and Jack Gallagher (52.60) placed sixth in 3:30.98.
  • The women's 4x400m 'A' team of Newberry (1:01.95), Derrick-Bain (58.98), Tyler Howard, (1:01.02), and Lowe (1:02.47) placed second in 4:04.40.  The 'B' team of Alicia Grady (1:03.36), Del Gandio (1:01.96), Galloway (1:08.30), and Baker (1:08.59) placed third in 4:22.19.  Finally, the 'C' team of Grace Adeyeye (1:18.08), Morris (1:07.35), Soares (1:03.63), and Yahudah-Edwards (1:02.46) placed fourth in 4:31.51.
Field Events Meet Notes
  • After the conclusion of Saturday's meets, Shak Williams ranked second in NCAA Division I in the men's 60m, Travis Williams ranked third in the men's 60m, Ludith Campos ranked fifth in the women's weight throw, and Louis Gordon ranked 10th in the men's long jump.
  • Antwone Messado recorded a time of 8.30, and Tino Mancabelli recorded a time of 8.64 in the preliminary round of the men's 60m hurdles.
  • Toni Galloway's time of 8.70 in the women's 60m hurdles broke the previous meet record of 8.72 set by Army West Point's Saydee Aganus in 2021.
  • Kate Del Gandio equaled her finals time of 8.91 in the preliminary round of the women's 60m hurdles.  Brinesha Derrick-Bain ran her preliminary race in 8.98.
  • Travis Williams edged Shak Williams 6.768 to 6.769 in the preliminary round of the men's 60m hurdles, breaking the previous meet record of 6.83 set in 2016 by Army West Point's Tyler Davis. Both broke the meet record again in the finals.
  • Shak Williams' time of 6.66 in the men's 60m finals breaks the previous school record of 6.77 set in 2007 by current UAlbany short sprints coach Junior Burnett.  Travis Williams also surpassed the previous school record with his time of 6.67.
  • Lucas Casab recorded a personal-best time of 6.83 in the preliminary round of the men's 60m.
  • Adaliz Hunt recorded a personal-best time of 7.59 in the preliminary round of the women's 60m.  Rori Lowe equaled her finals time of 7.77, and Jazmen Newberry recorded a time of 7.80.  Shenequa Vassell qualified seventh overall in 7.79 but did not race in the finals.
  • Amanda Chambers time of 9:55.13 in the women's 3,000m surpassed the previous meet record of 10:08.79 set in 2018 by Manhattan's Andria Scaglione.  Tess Fitzmaurice's 9:59.04 also surpassed the previous meet record.
  • Louis Gordon's mark of 24-01.00 in the men's long jump surpassed the previous meet record of 23-08.75 set in 2020 by Army West Point's Drew Bullen.
