Head Coach Greg Gattuso on the ‘Pink Game’

“The ‘Pink Game’ has always been great for us. It’s a great way to get people to come out and to raise money for a great cause. This year I’ve been an ambassador for it and we’ve raised over $6,000. All in all, it’s a great game, a great day. The guys can put survivors’ names on the back of their helmets, which I think is just awesome.”

Leading the Pack

  • The FCS teams UAlbany has faced this year have a combined record of 23-7.
  • Jackson Ambush leads the team in tackles with 54 (31 solo). That mark puts him fourth in the CAA.
  • Jared Verse has been UAlbany’s most effective pass rusher this fall. He has sacked the quarterback five times over six games for an average of .83 per game, ranking him third in the CAA.
  • Karl Mofor is averaging 64.2 yards per game on the ground this season. He’s scored three rushing TDs and one receiving TD. He continues to be a force through the air as well, ranking second on the team with 16 receptions for 116 yards.
  • Jeff Undercuffler is posting a line of 72-143-5, throwing for 843 yards with three TDs. His completion percentage comes in at 50.3%.
  • Mohamed Jabbie has been getting more and more touches in the slot, putting him atop the UAlbany wide recievers with 17 receptions. He is averaging 29.8 yards per game and 10.5 yards per reception.
  • Dylan Burns’ perfect kicking percentage hit a snag last weekend against Villanova, in a game marred by downpouring rain and high winds. He now sits at 6-for-8 on the season, but is still 9-for-9 on PATs.

Scouting Maine

The Black Bears come to UAlbany with a 2-4 mark overall, going 1-3 in conference play. The team defeated CAA foe William & Mary last week in Orono for homecoming – taking down the Tribe 27-16 for their first CAA victory of the year. The Black Bears forced three turnovers while snapping W&M’s four game win streak, racking up over 400 total yards of offense in the process. The only other Maine win this season has come against Merrimack College back in September by a final score of 31-26. The team has taken losses from Delaware (then #5), James Madison (then #3), Northern Illinois, and Elon. The Achilles’ heel of the team from up north may be the defense, which ranks last in the CAA allowing 34.2 points per game.

Last Time Against Maine

The two CAA rivals last met in the shortened spring season just a few months ago. UAlbany made the trip to Orono, but fell by a score of 38-34 in a shootout. Karl Mofor led the way for the Great Danes, rushing for 155 yards and two TDs. Jeff Undercuffler threw for 147 yards with two TD strikes of his own, one to Tyler Oedekoven and another to Mike Gray. Danny Damico had a stand-out game for the defense, collecting 14 tackles (13 solo) and blocking a field goal. Maine owns the edge in the all-time series, leading UAlbany 4-8. The margin of victory over those 12 games has never been more than two scores

Around the CAA

Four CAA Football teams were ranked in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll released on Monday. Villanova (No. 5), James Madison (No. 7), Rhode Island (No. 18), and Delaware (No. 23). In addition, William & Mary received votes in the latest poll. Last week’s results from around the CAA can be found below.

  • Villanova 17, UAlbany 10
  • William & Mary 16, Maine 27
  • Dartmouth 38, New Hampshire 21
  • James Madison 19, Richmond 3
  • Delaware 17, Stony Brook 34
  • Rhode Island 7, Towson 28

One Tough Schedule

It’s known that the Great Danes have faced one of the toughest schedules in the entire FCS. In the latest Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll, UAlbany’s opponents this year currently rank No. 3 (NDSU), No. 5 (Villanova), No. 18 (Rhode Island), and No. 23 (Delaware). In addition, William & Mary received votes in the poll for the third consecutive week and sits just outside the top 25.

Jabbie
I feel that giving back is always great, and it gives us something extra to play for. With breast cancer, I’ve heard a lot of stories on the team of guys who have members of their family that have been affected, so it’s even more of a boost to go out there and play well.
