Coach Greg Gattuso:Â "It's one of the most devastating losses I've been a part of as a football coach. I can't put it into words how tough it was. Our guys played hard, but the beginning of the second half was an atrocity that we had trouble recovering from. I felt that we had a chance all the way up to the end on that last pass to score and go for two and win the game."
How it Happened:
- Joey Carino made the start at quarterback for the Great Danes.
- UAlbany jumped out to the lead after Carino found Mofor for an 11-yard pass on the second drive of the day for the Great Danes. Mofor made a dazzling catch, bringing the pass down with just one hand. The drive was aided by a 53-yard pass from Carino to Jackson Parker.
- W&M knocked through a 43-yard field goal to hop on the board with 53 seconds left in the first quarter.
- The Great Danes extended the lead to 14-3 in the second quarter when Carino found Tyler Oedekoven in the end zone on a 3rd and goal from the 20.
- W&M tried to cut the lead to 14-6 on a 45-yard field goal attempt, but the kick was no good.
- The first turnover of the day came with 1:44 left in the first half after the Great Danes defense recovered a W&M fumble at the 36-yard line. UAlbany would capitalize on the opportunity when Mofor pounded the ball 32 yards for a rushing score to extend the lead to 21-3.
- Jackson Parker was ejected from the game before the end of the first half.
- Mofor had 115 yards rushing (11 receiving) by halftime.
- The Tribe came out of the locker room with some force, marching 87 yards down the field to score on their first drive of the second half. Martin Lucas ran the ball up the middle three yards for the score.
- After a three-and-out from UAlbany, a high snap on the ensuing punt went all the way back to the Great Danes' end zone – recovered by the Tribe for another touchdown to bring the score to 21-17.
- The Tribe took advantage yet again on the next kickoff, grabbing an unsuspecting onside kick to keep all momentum in their favor.
- UAlbany was able to catch a break on the next drive. A would-be touchdown from W&M, that would have put the Tribe in the lead, was called back due to offensive holding. A sack from Jared Verse on third down pushed the field goal attempt back, with W&M's Chang missing his second of the afternoon.
- After a fumble from Braeden Zenelovic, W&M took over in UAlbany territory to start the fourth quarter. The Tribe would then take a 24-21 lead on an 11-yard pass from Wilson to Pitts.
- The score was increased to 31-21 in favor of W&M with 8:00 left on the clock. Martin Lucas ran the ball 3 yards in, capping a 75-yard drive.
- UAlbany was able to make it a one score game with under five minutes remaining, with Dylan Burns hitting from 25-yards out. It would be the final score of the game,.
