RICHMOND – The University at Albany football team has had five players recognized with postseason honors, the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) announced Tuesday afternoon. Balansama Kamara led the Great Danes with a First Team selection at defensive line.

2025 CAA Award Winners

Balansama Kamara, DL – First Team

Carter Moses, TE – Second Team

Chris Gales, SPEC – Second Team

Steven Mahar Jr., FB/HB – Honorable Mention

Dillon Dunathan, LB – Honorable Mention

Kamara finished the season with 67 tackles, second on the team. He finished sixth in the entire conference with 13.5 tackles for loss. As part of that total, the Philadelphia native was able to sack opposing quarterbacks 7.5 times – also sixth best in the CAA. Fighting through an injury to his hand the entire season, Kamara was still able to force three fumbles, tied for second in the league. Kamara’s best outing came against Villanova, a game in which he recorded four tackles for loss.

Carter Moses finished the year as UAlbany’s top receiver. The North Carolina native hauled in 27 passes for 338 yards, averaging 12.52 yards per reception and 30.73 yards per game. The big man also caught three touchdowns throughout the year.

Chris Gales came to life at the end of the year after bouncing around the field in different capacities, due to injuries on the team. In 11 games played, Gales ended the year with 63 total tackles. The last five games of the year, however, was where his true potential was shown – totaling 58 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss in that span alone. He produced 20 tackles in UAlbany’s game against William & Mary, the most of any player in a single game all season. He was named the conference’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week following UAlbany’s upset over nationally ranked Monmouth.

Steven Mahar Jr. was another weapon for the Great Dane offense. The Rochester, New York product brought in eight receptions for 102 yards, including two touchdowns. His scores came in games against Delaware State and Bryant.

Dillon Dunathan, in only 10 games played, ended the season as UAlbany’s leading tackler with 71. The mark put him 11th overall in the CAA. The linebacker tacked on 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack. His best stretch of the season came during UAlbany’s four games against Rhode Island, Villanova, William & Mary, and Bryant, in which Dunathan recorded 37 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.
