DAVIDSON, N.C. – The UAlbany women's soccer team begins the 2015 season with a road trip to the Tar Heel State, taking on Davidson on Friday, August 21st at the Alumni Soccer Stadium at 7:30 p.m. and Campbell on Monday, August 24th at 4 p.m. at the Eakes Athletic Complex.
Both games will be broadcast online. UAlbany-Davidson will air on the Atlantic-10 Network and is accessible via subscription, while UAlbany-Campbell will be accessible for free on the Big South Network Channel. For fans looking to attend the games, each contest is free of charge.
This will be the first-ever meeting for UAlbany against Davidson and Campbell. UAlbany ventures to the state of North Carolina for the first time since 2012 and second time in the program's DI history. In 2012, UAlbany fell to Western Carolina before defeat UNC Asheville 6-3 on September 2nd.
UAlbany is coming off a season where the Great Danes went 7-9-5 overall, finishing fourth in the America East and earning a trip to the league semifinals. Davidson went 5-12-2 in 2014, getting a 2-5-1 conference tally to conclude in 10th in the Atlantic 10. Campbell earned a fourth place finish in the Big South in 2014, going 8-8-3 overall and 5-4-2 in conference play.
UAlbany returns 10 starters and 16 letterwinners from last year's team, losing only one starter and two letterwinners from 2014. Returners include the entire starting midfield and attack corps from 2014 plus three defenders and goalkeeper. Into 2015, UAlbany returns 100% of the scoring from the previous year, including Vivian Vega, the reigning America East Rookie of the Year, who ranked tied for second in UAlbany single season history with nine goals in 2014, and Kiana Rugar, who tied the program record of seven assists. Five UAlbany players, Vega, Rugar, Krista Fitzpatrick, Caitlyn Paltsios and Alexa Schneider, earned double digit points last year.
Davidson went 5-12-2 overall in 2014 during its first year in the Atlantic 10 conference. The Wildcats return eight starters from last season, led by senior midfielder Vicky Bruce, who had two goals and three assists in 2014. No other multi-goal scorers or goalkeepers with minutes played come back from 2014.
Campbell reached the Big South semifinal round in 2014, finishing the year at 8-8-3. The team's top three goal-scorers from last year return, including redshirt senior forward Ashley Clark, who scored eight goals, and junior defender Nicole Connolly, who had seven goals and three assists. Senior Alexis Connors started 15 games in goal last year, allowing 1.12 goals a contest.
