ALBANY, N.Y. – After two games on the road, the University at Albany men's soccer squad (2-2-3) will play its first mid-week game of the season on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m., against Lafayette (2-3-2).
The Great Danes emerged from Oneonta with a 2-2 double overtime tie against Hartwick on Saturday afternoon. Hartwick forced UAlbany into double overtime for the fourth time this season, but the Purple & Gold never trailed.
Afonso Pinheiro led the team on the offensive end, scoring one goal and recording an assist. Fellow newcomer Pedro Espindola scored his first career goal as a Great Dane in the tie.
Pinheiro was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday for the second consecutive time for his efforts. The freshman forward now leads the team with seven points (3g, 1a), and ranks third in the league in points and goals.
FRESHMEN TANDEM
Pinheiro and classmate Jake Barros have combined for 11 points; half the team's total this season. The freshmen pair has scored in four games between them.
6,000-MINUTE CLUB
Senior defender Dominic McGarr broke the 6,000-minute mark for his career against the Hawks. The three-year co-captain is one of two UAlbany players to ever reach 6,000 minutes or more, along with former teammate Chris Nisser. His 6,097 career minutes to date include a program-record 65 consecutive starting assignments.
PUTTING IN OVERTIME
The Great Danes played their fourth double overtime game of the season against Hartwick. Last year's team saw double overtime action a program-high seven times. Head coach Trevor Gorman has seen 16 double overtime games in his tenure and 20 with at least one extra session.
