UAlbany Women's Basketball Stays Perfect in Conference Play with a 79-72 Win over Boston U.
ALBANY,
N.Y. - The University at Albany made it 13-0 in America East
play after defeating Boston University, 79-72, at SEFCU Arena on Thursday, Feb
21. Senior guard Ebone Henry led UAlbany with 23 points. UAlbany improves to 22-3
overall, while BU drops to 22-5, with a 12-2 league record. The Terriers' only
two conference losses this season have come at the hands of the Great Danes.
The game started with Boston U. (22-5, 12-2 AE) scoring
the first eight points, the biggest deficit UAlbany has seen in conference play
this season. However, as they've done all year, the Great Danes responded. The
Terriers were held without a hoop for the next six minutes. In the span,
UAlbany scored 14 straight to take a 14-8 lead. Henry led the charge - scoring
five straight points to open up the Danes' first advantage.
This battle between the America East's top two teams was
not going to be an easy one. The Terriers went a 12-4 run to even things up at
22 with 7:36 to go in the first. Forward Rashidat Agboola scored nine points in
the first 12 minutes, adding two blocks.
Henry, again, continued to prove her veteran leadership.
Hitting her second three from the left corner to stop the Boston U. run and
give UAlbany back the lead at 25-22. After the Terriers hit a three of their
own, senior Lindsey Lowrie answered - twice. Her two treys gave UAlbany a six
point lead, 31-25, with 3:25 left in the first. They extended that lead to
35-27 before the halftime break. Henry went to the locker room leading all
scorers with 12 points.
Coming out of halftime, Boston U. opened up a 14-4 run to
tie the game at 39-39 with 17:33 to go. The Terriers continued to find the
three ball - hitting a pair to take a 47-45 lead.
The game remained close and physical. A hard foul by
Boston U. on Henry ignited the crowd and gave the Great Danes a lead they would
never give back. Henry hit both shots, then followed with five straight points
to give UAlbany a 59-53 lead. Lowrie
again came up with two key long-range shots at the seven minute mark, blowing
open a 65-55 lead. She finished with a heart-daggering third make behind the
arc to put the game away at 68-60.
Behind Henry, Lowrie finished with a game-leading five
three's. Senior forward Keyana Williams chipped in a career-high 15 points and
nine rebounds. As a team, the Great Danes shot 51 percent (26-51) and were
19-27 (70.4 percent) from the charity stripe. Chantell Alford led all scorers
with 25 points for the Terriers.
UAlbany will hit the road this weekend for a conference
match against Vermont. Tip-off is set for Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m inside
Patrick Gymnasium.
