Shayla Bergeron Voted America East Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A stellar nine-point week performance by senior forward Shayla Bergeron garnered her second America East Conference Player of the Week on the year, which was voted on by the conference office. The Hudson, N.H. native capped off her best season for her career in the final two regular season matches.

In a crucial conference match on Thursday against Maine, Bergeron helped lock up one of the final spots in the conference tournament. She scored the equalizing goal in the 55th minute, 2-2, at the point in the match. Then Maine came right back seconds later to put the go-ahead goal, 3-2. The senior forward, right off the kickoff, assisted teammate Chelsea DeVerna for the second equalizing goal to lock up a tie and a crucial point.

Then on Senior Day, Bergeron put on a performance that she did earlier this season. UMBC tallied the match's first goal of the game to give the Retrievers an early 1-0 lead. The Hudson, N.H. native went on to score three consecutive goals en route to the Great Danes third conference win of the season and grab the fifth seed in the conference tournament.

On the season, Bergeron is second in the conference in points (28), goals (11) and tied-for third in assists (6). Overall, the senior forward has recorded multi-point matches on seven different occasions this season.

The America East Conference Tournament fifth seeded Great Danes head to Burlington, Vt. on Thursday, Oct. 25 to face the fourth seeded Catamounts of Vermont. Kickoff  for the America East Quarterfinal at Virtue Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
