Eugene, Ore. - University at Albany's Kathryn Fanning finished 10th in the women's 1,500-meter run final on Saturday, June 25 at the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The four-day competition was being held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, site of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials.
???? Fanning, who just completed her freshman season at UAlbany, ran a season-best 4:31.21 in the championship race. An All-Central New York runner on the scholastic level, Fanning was three seconds off the school record. University of Florida's Cory McGee placed first with a time of 4:21.91.
???? A native of Manlius, N.Y., Fanning was fourth in the previous day's first semifinal heat with a time of 4:34.46. Fanning ran the first 300 meters in 55.18 seconds and went the last 400 split in 1:06.19. Her final time was 46-hundredths of a second off her previous season-best that was established at the Florida Relays in April. In addition, Jonelle White, an 18-year-old UAlbany freshman, took sixth in her 800-meter run semifinal and placed 13th overall. She was clocked in 2:13.35.
