Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Peter Rowell has been voted America East Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year in men's indoor track and field, as announced on Thursday, April 21 by the conference office.
Rowell, a junior from Scotia, N.Y., has a 3.63 cumulative grade point average in accounting with a minor in business administration. He helped lead the Great Danes to their sixth consecutive America East indoor championship. Rowell won the 500-meter run with an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:03.40 and placed eighth in the same event at the IC4A Championship in March. He was also a member of the winning distance medley relay that was timed in 9:48.80 at the America East meet, plus ran on the third-place 4x400-meter relay. In addition, Rowell set a school record in the 600-meter run (1:20.12) at Penn State's Nittany Lion Challenge.
Rowell was named to the America East Conference Indoor Track Academic Team for the second consecutive year. He is a member of the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
