UALBANY TO HOST FIFTH ANNUAL GREAT DANE CLASSIC
Albany, N.Y. - The University at Albany's track and field program will host the fifth annual Great Dane Classic on Friday, Jan. 19 at the New York City Armory. The meet begins at 1:45 p.m.
This year's meet features 28 men's teams and 27 women's teams, including last year's men's and women's champions Rutgers and Northeastern, respectively. The field also includes America East members Binghamton, Maine and Stony Brook.
On the women's side, senior Alyssa Lotmore, who won last season's 3,000-meters, and sophomore Jessica Ortman, the 800-meters winner, both return for the Great Danes. Ortman, the school's record-holder in the 800m, has already won the event at two meets this season. Lotmore and Ortman were also members of last season's first-place distance medley relay team. The field events are highlighted by junior Brenna Militello, who has been UAlbany's top high jump finisher at each of the team's meets and won the event at Army's Carleton Crowell Open on Jan. 13.
Sophomore Joe Greene, who won the 400-meter dash at last year's Great Dane Classic, returns for the UAlbany men's squad. Senior Junior Burnett, who set the school's 60-meter record at last week's Gotham Cup, and sophomore Pat Weider, the winner of the 400-meters at the Army meet, are also among the team's runners. Junior Felipe Reyes, who qualified for the IC4A meet with a long jump of 23 feet, four inches at last week's meet, is among UAlbany's top participants in the field events.
