UAlbany Wins 2021-22 America East Commissioner's Cup

BOSTON – The University at Albany has won the 2021-22 America East Stuart P. Haskell Commissioner’s Cup, awarded annually to the conference’s top-performing athletic department.

The Great Danes earned the Cup for the eighth time overall and first since the 2017-18 season, behind four America East titles and five runners-up performances.

Winning the Commissioner's Cup for the seventh time in the last nine years it has been awarded is a tremendous achievement that speaks to the commitment, consistency of effort, and overall excellence of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff. We are proud of the fact that our student-athletes have also consistently succeeded in the classroom with an outstanding overall department GPA of 3.13. Winning the Commissioner's Cup is a true reflection of President RodrĂguez and our university leadership providing the necessary support for our student-athletes in pursuit of these outstanding accomplishments.

The Commissioner’s Cup is determined by a scoring system under which programs earn points for their team’s performances, both during the regular season and in the conference tournaments for each of the league’s sponsored sports.

2022 OTF Champions

During the 2021-22 academic year, the Great Danes won league titles in women’s basketball, women’s indoor track & field, and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field. Additionally, men’s track & field finished second at the indoor championship meet, while field hockey, volleyball, women’s lacrosse, and softball each made league championship appearances.

2022 OTF Champions

UAlbany won its first Commissioner’s Cup during the 2004-05 school year, and won six-straight from 2012-13 through 2017-18.  This season, The Great Danes won the Cup wire-to-wire, leading the league standings after each of the Fall and Winter seasons, before finalizing the victory in the spring.

Everyone in our country, including our student-athletes, has been through challenging times during the past couple of years. Bringing the Cup back to UAlbany for the first time since the 2017-18 season, following one interrupted and one incomplete year, is especially gratifying for our student-athletes, and I am extremely happy for them.
