BOSTON - University at Albany freshman forward
Luca Clausse has been named the America East Men's Soccer Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week following his performance in the Great Danes' 2-0 victory over New Hampshire in the conference opener.
Â
Clausse powered UAlbany to victory, scoring both goals. He broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a finish off a sublime assist from
Benedikt Rachor before finding the back of the net again just 14 seconds into the second half, this time off an assist from
Ivar Gissurarson. Clausse finished the match with four shots, including three on goal.
Â
The two-goal performance accounted for all of UAlbany's scoring in the victory and helped the Great Danes open America East play with a win. Through eight matches, Clausse has recorded nine points on two goals and a team-best five assists. His five assists rank second in the America East, while his 0.63 assists per game also rank second in the conference. His nine points rank third in the league.
Â
The awards mark the first America East Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors of Clausse's career. The Great Danes improved to 5-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in America East play with the victory.
Â
UAlbany returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3, as the Great Danes travel to UMass Lowell for their second America East match of the season. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
