UAlbany Ranked No. 24 in United Soccer Coaches National Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The UAlbany men's soccer team has been ranked No. 24 in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's National Poll, announced Tuesday, October 6.

The Great Danes enter the national rankings for the first time this season after receiving 11 points in the Poll 7 voting. UAlbany joins No. 16 Vermont as the two America East programs represented in the national Top 25.
 
The national ranking marks the first for the Great Danes since the historic 2016 season. UAlbany broke into the Coaches Poll for the first time in program history at No. 21 following its first America East Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. The Great Danes went on to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 before finishing the season ranked a program-best No. 17 in the final Coaches Poll.

In addition to the national recognition, UAlbany was ranked No. 5 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Northeast Region Poll, which were released on October 6, 2026. The Great Danes sit behind No. 1 Vermont, No. 2 Cornell, No. 3 Princeton and No. 4 Bryant in the regional rankings.

UAlbany enters the week with a 6-2-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in America East play. The Great Danes have won three consecutive matches and are unbeaten in their last four, with their last loss coming against Princeton. During the four-match unbeaten streak, UAlbany has outscored opponents 6-2 and recorded three consecutive shutouts. The Great Danes have posted five clean sheets through their first nine matches of the season.

The Great Danes most recently earned a 1-0 road victory over UMass Lowell on October 3. Freshman Yuta Kimata scored the match-winning goal in the 52nd minute, while the UAlbany defense held the River Hawks scoreless to secure its third straight shutout. The victory moved the Great Danes to 2-0 in conference play and extended their winning streak to three matches.
 
Through nine matches, UAlbany has scored 14 goals while limiting opponents to 10. The Great Danes have outshot their opponents 112-81 and hold a 59-28 advantage in shots on goal. Ivar Gissurarson leads the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists, while Kimata has recorded four goals and two assists for 10 points.
 
Up Next: The No. 24 Great Danes return home on Saturday, October 10, to host Bryant in an America East matchup at 6:00 PM at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. UAlbany enters the contest alone atop the America East standings with six points.
