UAlbany Finishes Week Against UCF

SCORE: UCF 3, UAlbany 0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-13)

SHORT STORY: A dominant performance by UCF resulted in a sweep over UAlbany, Friday afternoon.

KEY STATS

  • Junior outside hitter Pinar Erol led the team in kills with 10.
  • Junior defensive specialist Kiki Provatas had a team-high three aces. 
  • Senior setter Madison Hess and junior middle blocker Mina Benucci each earned one block. Hess also contributed 21 assists.
  • Junior libero Kasia Barletta recorded 12 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • To start set one, UAlbany and UCF went back-and-fourth exchanging points, but the Knights' 5-1 scoring run gave them a five-point lead in the first half, 15-10.
  • UCF carried their scoring run into the second half as they jumped out to a 20-12 lead, and secured the win for set one.
  • In similar fashion, kills from Pinar Erol and freshman Lily Lott helped the Great Danes go toe-to-toe with UCF early in set two.
  • A 5-2 run by the Great Danes continued to keep the set close, but the Knights reached 15 first for a three-point lead.
  • Two service aces from Kiki Provatas gave momentum to UAlbany as the set was tied, 17-17.
  • The Great Danes fought hard to keep the set close, but UCF took the second set, 25-22. 
  • The Knights had a strong start to set three with an early 9-3 advantage.
  • The Great Danes answered with a 5-1 scoring run, but the Knights continued to hold the lead, 15-10.
  • UCF scored six consecutive points to start the second half, which powered them to a 21-10 advantage. 
  • With a 25-13 set-three win, the Knights sealed the match.
