Women’s Lacrosse Gear Up for America East Title Run in Rhode Island

 ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women's lacrosse team heads to Bryant University this weekend for the 2025 America East Championship. The Great Danes enter as the No. 3 seed and will open tournament play on Friday in the semifinal round.
 
Top-seeded Bryant will take on No. 4 seed UMBC in the first semifinal at 4:00 p.m., followed by UAlbany matching up against No. 2 seed UMass Lowell at 7:00 p.m.
The winners of Friday's semifinals will meet in the championship game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
 
All games of the 2025 America East Women's Lacrosse Championship will stream live on ESPN+.

Scouting #2 UMass Lowell
The River Hawks are 11-5 overall heading into the tournament, including a 5-1 record at home and a 6-4 mark on the road. As a team, UMass Lowell has scored 208 goals and recorded 86 assists on 470 shots, resulting in a .443 shot percentage. They have placed 342 of those shots on goal, good for a .728 shot-on-goal percentage. The team is 42-77 on free position attempts for a .545 free position percentage. Defensively, the River Hawks have collected 215 ground balls, forced 112 caused turnovers, and committed 242 turnovers. They have also won 213 draw controls and gone 237-295 on clear attempts for an .803 clear percentage.
 
Jade Catlin leads UMass Lowell with 56 points on a team-high 50 goals and six assists. Jillian Goldie ranks second with 46 points, including 33 goals and 13 assists. Chloe Bowers and Audra Hansen are tied with 42 points apiece - Bowers with 35 goals and seven assists, and Hansen with 29 goals and 13 assists. March 29, 2025 | UAlbany dropped its first road conference game of the season, falling to UMass Lowell 13-9 at Cushing Field. Mikaela Mooney led the offense with five points on three goals and two assists, while Gracie McCauley scored a team-high four goals, including two free-position conversions. Courtney Rowe and Ava Poupard each added a goal, and Mackenzie Salentre led the defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Haley Phalines secured a team-high six draw controls.
 
The Great Danes recorded 27 shots with 19 on goal, picked up 18 ground balls, went 18-for-18 on clears, and won eight draw controls while committing 12 turnovers. The River Hawks tallied 23 shots with 18 on goal, converted 7 free-position attempts, and held a 16-8 advantage at the draw. UAlbany took a 4-2 lead early in the second quarter, but UMass Lowell responded with a 4-0 run to close the half and never trailed again. Despite a late push sparked by McCauley and Mooney, the River Hawks maintained control in the fourth and handed UAlbany a 13-9 defeat.

The Bulldogs are 10-6 overall heading into the America East Tournament, including a 5-4 record at home and a 5-2 mark on the road. As a team, Bryant has scored 200 goals and recorded 81 assists on 487 shots, resulting in a .411 shot percentage. They have placed 353 of those shots on goal, good for a .725 shot-on-goal percentage. The team is 40-80 on free position attempts for a .500 free position percentage. Defensively, the Bulldogs have collected 285 ground balls, forced 215 caused turnovers, and committed 242 turnovers. They have also won 187 draw controls and gone 291-326 on clear attempts for an .893 clear percentage.
 
Isabelle Katter leads Bryant with 59 points on 32 goals and a team-high 27 assists. Emily DeGeorge ranks second with 49 points, scoring 42 goals and adding seven assists. Gabriella Constant follows with 41 points (35g, 6a), while Riley O'Mara and Elise Larsen have contributed 30 points each - O'Mara with 28 goals and two assists, Larsen with 13 goals and 17 assists.

April 12, 2025 | UAlbany came up just short on the road, falling to Bryant 10-9 in a tightly contested America East matchup at Beirne Stadium. Ava Poupard and Dylana Williams each posted four points on two goals and two assists to lead the Great Danes, while Mikaela Mooney added two goals and one assist. Gracie McCauley anchored the defense with a game-high five caused turnovers and two ground balls, and Emma Torkoff led UAlbany with three ground balls. Paisley Cook added five draw control wins, while Grace Cincebox finished with five saves in goal.
 
The Great Danes outshot the Bulldogs 29-31 and held the edge in shots on goal (18-15). UAlbany also recorded 12 ground balls, nine caused turnovers, and 13 draw controls, but committed 20 turnovers in the loss. Bryant used a four-goal run spanning the third and fourth quarters to take control after UAlbany led 6-5. Williams and McCauley scored 30 seconds apart to cut it to 9-8 late, but the Bulldogs added a key insurance goal with just over three minutes remaining. Williams struck again to make it 10-9 with 1:47 left, but UAlbany's rally came up just short in the final minute.

The team is 40-70 on free position attempts for a .571 free position percentage. Defensively, the Retrievers have collected 266 ground balls, forced 121 caused turnovers, and committed 198 turnovers. They have also won 247 draw controls and gone 227-246 on clear attempts for a .923 clear percentage.
 
Emily Knapp leads UMBC with 66 points on 46 goals and 20 assists. Katana Nelson follows closely with 55 points, including a team-high 52 goals and three assists. Grace Bruce has contributed 54 points (46g, 8a), while Libby Staples and Lizzie Bateman each have 34 points - Staples with 14 goals and 20 assists, and Bateman with five goals and a team-high 29 assists.

In net, Isabella Fontana (9-3) has appeared in all 15 games, logging 755:08 minutes and allowing 135 goals for a 10.73 goals-against average. She has made 87 saves on 222 shots faced for a .392 save percentage. Mikaela Staranko (1-1) has also contributed in seven appearances, posting an 8.54 GAA and a .429 save percentage in 140:31 minutes.

April 19, 2025 | UAlbany celebrated Senior Day with a statement win, defeating UMBC 14-8 at John Fallon Field to secure its third America East victory of the season. Mikaela Mooney led the Great Danes with five points, scoring four goals and one assist while converting all three of her free-position attempts. Gracie McCauley added a hat trick with three unassisted goals, and Dylana Williams tallied two goals and one assist. Paisley Cook controlled the draw circle with a game-high 12 draw controls and scored twice. Ava Poupard contributed a goal and an assist, while Mackenzie Salentre added a goal, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
 
UAlbany totaled 33 shots with 20 on goal, picked up 14 ground balls, won 23 draw controls, and caused 10 turnovers while going 19-for-22 on clears. The Retrievers managed 23 shots (14 on goal), committed 17 turnovers, and were held to just eight draw controls. The Great Danes never trailed in the contest, building a multi-goal lead early and answering every UMBC run with timely scoring and defensive stops to seal the 14-8 win.

April 26, 2025 | UAlbany punched its ticket to the America East Tournament with a dominant 19-9 road win at Binghamton. Mikaela Mooney led the way with five goals and two assists for seven points, while Dylana Williams added four goals and one assist. Gracie McCauley tallied a hat trick and recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers, reaching 100 career points. Ravan Marsell, Courtney Rowe, and Kloey Roos each contributed a goal, and junior defender Delilah Mile scored the first goal of her career in the final minute.
 
Paisley Cook won a game-high nine draw controls, helping UAlbany control possession throughout the game. In goal, Grace Cincebox allowed three goals and made one save in the first half, while Quinn McCarthy recorded six saves with six goals allowed in the second. The Great Danes outshot the Bearcats 44-23 (31-16 on goal), won 20 of 32 draws, collected 16 ground balls, and forced 10 turnovers while going a perfect 18-for-18 on clears. The win secured a 4-2 finish in America East play and set the Great Danes up as the No. 3 seed entering the postseason.
