Previously vs. the Bearcats
May 5, 2024 | The Great Danes fell just short of their second-straight America East title, dropping a 12-11 heartbreaker to No. 2 seed Binghamton in the championship game at John Fallon Field. UAlbany opened the contest on fire, scoring the first five goals behind a balanced attack led by Grace McCauley,
Ava Poupard, and
Bryar Hogg. The Bearcats responded with a run of their own, netting three goals in the final minute of the first half to cut UAlbany's lead to 7-6 at the break. Binghamton continued their surge in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals to take a 12-7 lead early in the fourth.
UAlbany showed its trademark grit down the stretch, locking down defensively and clawing back within one after goals from Poupard and
Megan Dineen, but a late turnover with under 10 seconds to play sealed the outcome. Poupard, McCauley, and Dineen each recorded a hat trick, while Hogg tallied a goal and two assists. The Bearcats won the draw control battle 18-9 and committed just 16 fouls to UAlbany's 32. Cincebox made eight saves in goal, including several critical stops in the closing minutes, but the Great Danes' comeback effort fell just short as Binghamton captured its first-ever America East title.
