Leading the Pack
  • The Great Danes were picked to finish second in the annual MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • UAlbany has participated in one event so far this spring – the Babs Steffens Invitational, hosted by Stetson in DeBary, Fla.. The Great Danes finished in ninth place.
  • Jessica Brown led the squad at the Babs Steffens Invitational, finishing in a tie for 21st place at +16.
  • Mia Cepeda followed, finishing in a tie for 42nd place at +24. In the fall, she shot +14 at Bucknell (second on the team) before she led UAlbany in the Red Bandana Invitational with a score of +20. She placed third on the team at Princeton, shooting +19, and tied for second on the team (17th overall) at UAlbany's home event, shooting  +14. She rounded out her fall with an 18th place finish, third on the team, at the Lehigh Invitational.
  • Callie Taylor finished at +29 at DeBary, tied for 55th place. Taylor was UAlbany's top golfer in three of five events in the fall, pacing the Great Danes in the Bucknell Invitational (third place, +10), Princeton Invitational (15th place, +13), and Lehigh Invitational (9th place, +12).
  • Lucia Esteban and Madison Kuratani both finished in a tie for 64th place at the Babs Steffens Invitational, shooting +34. In the fall, Esteban had a strong outing at the UAlbany Great Danes Invitational, leading the team at its home event with an eighth-place finish after shooting +11 over two days. Kuratani participated in all but one tournament in the fall, finishing as high as third on the team in the Bucknell Invitational.
  • This week's event will be the first of the spring for Thantita Aungsuseewong. She last participated in the Lehigh invitational, finishing in 22nd place overall and fourth on the team after shooting +18 overall.

Head Coach Colleen Cashman
"Five years ago, we were supposed to have been on an airplane to spend our spring break in Gulf Shores. Then our college athletics world as we knew it came to an end. So, I'm excited to once again get a chance to head south to this event and fulfill the obligation that we never got to have in 2020. I believe the team is ready to play some golf. We used our first event at Stetson as a measure as to where we are in our spring preparation. We came back knowing what we needed to work on, and we did just that. The week is looking bright with a beautiful condo rented overlooking the Gulf and four rounds of golf should give us a lot of practice. I'm excited to see who will step up this week and be the leader in the clubhouse. I told all of them I wanted each and every one of them to want to be the #1 player on the team - Not just happy to get in the van. I hope they take that to heart and we see lots of good scores!"

About the Course
The Golf Club's 18 championship holes were designed by the renowned father-son team of Jay and Carter Morrish, and feature a few sharp doglegs, bunkers, and the occasional water hazards. The course was built in the 1960's, and was the first golf course in Gulf Shores, Alabama. In November 2005, the course closed to undergo a complete renovation. Taking place under the guidance of Jay and Carter Morrish, the renovation lengthened the par 71 course by 300 yards and added numerous water features, enhanced fairways, and additional bunkers. This scenic course is home to an abundance of wildlife. Squirrels, raccoons, and alligators are just a few of the typical residents. Water hazards (ponds) come into play on several holes, and numerous oak and pine trees can affect your shots.
