Men’s Basketball Hosts Union Night Thursday; Visits Binghamton Saturday

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men's basketball team will host the Bryant Bulldogs on Thursday, January 16 at 6:30 pm vs the Bryant Bulldogs for Union Night before traveling to Vestal, N.Y. to take on the Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday, January 18 at 2:00 pm.

Leading the Pack 

·       UAlbany is 9-9 overall, and 4-2 at home this season; Bryant holds a 8-9 overall record while 3-6 on the road, while Binghamton is 9-9 while 3-7 for away games 

·       Four UAlbany players are recording double-digit scoring averages from Amar'e Marshall (13.9), Byron Joshua (12.8), DeMarr Langford Jr. (12.5), and Justin Neely (11.5). 

·       Amar'e Marshall leads the Great Danes with 223 points shooting 80-13 (.416%) from the field and 23-70 (.329%) from three-point range. 

·       On the glass, Nelly records a team-high 118 rebounds averaging 6.6 per game. 

·       Joshua and Marshall are both tied for the team lead in steals at 27 and in assists at 47 each. 

·       Langford Jr. and Kacper Klaczek both lead the team in denying shots with nine blocks for each player 

·       In minutes, DeMarr Langford Jr. leads the team With 502 total minutes played, averaging 29.5 minutes per game. 

·       Joshua and Marshall are the only two Great Danes averaging over 30 minutes with Joshua at 32.6 minutes per game and Marshall recording 30.5 per game. 

Scouting Bryant  

The Bulldogs are coming off two conference wins against Maine (81-55) and Vermont (73-53)0 respectively. This season Bryant is averaging 82.1 points, 29.6 field goals, 8.4 threes, 14.4 free throws, 40.4 rebounds, 14.4 assists, 13.6 turnovers, 7.3 steals, and 4.9 blocks per game. 

Rafael Pinzon currently leads Bryant with 244 points in 17 games for an average of 17.4 points. He's shooting 88-203 (.433%) from the field and 36-75 (.480%) beyond the arc. He's spent an overall time of 450 minutes on the court for an average of 32.1 minutes per game and has the best free throw percentage on the team shooting 58-82 (.914%).  

Barry Evans is the Bulldogs leader in rebounds with 128 (48 off – 85 def) averaging 7.5 per game while also recording the most field goals making 89 of 192 (.464%) alongside Earl Timberlake who's shooting .69-186 (.478%) this season. Timberlake also leads the team in assists with 66.  

One of the most versatile players for the Bulldogs this season has been sixth year member Connor Withers who leads Bryant in three-point shooting going 37-106 (.349%), total minutes (572), steals (31), and blocks (25)

March 5, 2024 | Muneer Newton had a career night, finishing with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds – both of which led the team. Sebastian Thomas followed with 19 points, collecting seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. Amar'e Marshall dropped 14 points, going 3-6 from beyond the arc. Tyler Bertram dropped 12, going 4-8 from deep. UAlbany shot 39.2% (31-79) from the field and 33.3% (9-27) from the three-point line. Bryant shot 51.7% (30-58) from the field and 45% (9-20) from three. UAlbany out-rebounded Bryant, 43-41, thanks to 19 offensive rebounds. Bryant finished the game with 13 blocks to UAlbany's two. 

The Great Danes and the Bulldogs have only faced off five times, four of which have been America East match ups with the Bulldogs coming out on top of all four, the Great Danes have one win against Bryant for a 1-4 overall record.  

Scouting Binghamton  

Binghamton are coming off two conference losses to Maine (71-82) and New Hampshire (72-79) respectively.  This season the Bearcats are averaging 70.3 points, 25.2 field goals, 7.4 threes, 12.3 free throws, 35.2 rebounds, 14.1 assists, 13.7 turnovers, 5.1 steals, and 3.2 blocks per game. 

Tymu Chenery leads the points tally with 254 for a team-high average of 14.1 per game. Chenery also leads the team in minutes (616) averaging 34.2, field goals shooting 94-195 (.482%), assists (62), and blocks (24)  

Gavin Walsh leads the team on rebounds with 176 (39 off – 137 def), averaging 10.4 per game and leads the Bearcats in free throws, going 56-82 (.683%), as well as steals with 16.  

Leading the three-point tally is Ben Callahan-Gold, going 41-105 for an average of .390%.

February 8, 2024 | Amar'e Marshall led the Great Danes in scoring with 14 points, going 5-21 from the field and 4-5 from the charity stripe. Sebastian Thomas, who returned to the game after leaving minutes into the second half, finished with 13 points while leading the team in assists with nine. Aaron Reddish took in a team-high 10 rebounds. Binghamton out-rebounded UAlbany, 48-31. UAlbany shot 31.3% (20-64) from the field and 23.5% (8-34) from three. Binghamton shot 49.1% (28-57) from the field and went just 2-13 from three. 

UAlbany has an overall record of 27-18 against Binghamton and are 12-11 overall while visiting the Bearcats on their home turf.  

Last Time Out 

January 11, 2025 | The UAlbany men's basketball team traveled to Orono, Maine for their third conference matchup of the season against the Maine Blackbears where they fell 66-87. During the matchup, Kacper Klaczek recorded a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds shooting 6-9 (66.7%) from the field and 3-4 (75.0%) from the free throw line. Amar'e Marshall recorded four assists. DeMarr Langford Jr. led the team with two steals. The Great Danes outrebounded the Black Bears 40-23 throughout the game where off the glass they outrebounded Maine 15-2 on offense and 25-21 defensively. UAlbany finished with 40 points in the paint to Maine's 36. UAlbany shot 25-58 (43.1%) from the field, 5-18 (27.8%) from the three, and 11-17 (64.7%) from the free throw line.

Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops is officially back for a third season! Coaches Dwayne Killings and Colleen Mullen, along with select student-athletes, will join ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team's Charlie Voelker and Dan Bahl every Monday from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. live from City Line Bar & Grill for a weekly segment entitled 'Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops'.  
  
Fans are invited to come out to City Line Bar & Grill to join Coach Killings, Coach Mullen, student-athletes, and the ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team crew. Food and drink specials will be available every week as the teams embark on their new seasons and talk hoops every Monday.  
  
Postgame Show 
The UAlbany Basketball Postgame Show returns this season to 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio. The show will begin immediately following all games, home and away, for fans to listen to as they commute home or tune in from a distance. 
  
The show is set to run for 30 minutes following the final buzzer on 104.5 The Team. Fans will hear initial reactions and a game recap to start the segment followed by interviews with the team. Coach Dwayne Killings and select student-athletes will join ESPN Radio's Rodger Wyland and Michael Johnson Jr. to break down the contest, give insights, opinions, and responses, and discuss the team's next matchup. 
  
Fans can tune in to ESPN Radio 104.5 the Team by turning the dial on their radio or by streaming on their computers or smartphones.
