Vives, Claxton to World Indoor Championships

ALBANY, N.Y. – Two members of the University at Albany track & field program will travel to Glasgow, Scotland, for the 2024 World Indoor Championships.  Both Roberto Vives and Grace Claxton will represent Puerto Rico.
 
Vives once again joins the Puerto Rico coaching staff as Team Leader.  For this event, Vives will oversee a roster of three, including Claxton.  Joining Claxton is Rob Napolitano and John Rivera.  Napolitano is entered in the men's 1,500m, and is a Columbia University alumnus who has run 3:54.12 in the mile this indoor season, and holds an outdoor best of 3:35.63 in the 1,500m.  Rivera is entered in the men's 800m, graduated from Ole Miss, and holds an outdoor best of 1:45.29.
 
Vives previously worked with the Puerto Rico National Team at the 2023 World Outdoor Championships in Budapest, the 2022 World Outdoor Championships in Oregon, the 2019 Pan American Games, and the 2018 World Championships.  In 2015, Vives worked for Team USA at the North America, Central America, and Caribbean Senior Area Championships.
 
Claxton is entered in the women's 400m, and will make her third appearance at World Indoor Championships.  The three-time Puerto Rico national champion previously competed in 2018 in Birmingham, Great Britain, and in 2016 in Portland, Oregon.  In 2024, Claxton has competed in three open 400m races, recording a personal-best of 54.31.
 
The 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow run from March 1-3 and will be televised on NBC and CNBC March 2-3.  The first round of the women's 400m is schedule for 10:20 am local time, or 5:20 am Eastern time, on March 1.
