ALBANY, N.Y. – The 2021-22 collegiate season may have ended for the University at Albany track & field program, but current and former Great Danes continue to compete at meets around the world. This weekend saw alumni Grace Claxton and
Jan Michael Gutierrez Almedina compete in the Puerto Rico national championships, and current student-athlete
Dominique Clarke compete in Jamaica.
Â
Claxton, a 2016 Olympian and 12-time America East champion, won the 400m hurdles at the Puerto Rico National Championships, clocking a time of 56.87 to win by more than six seconds. The national title follows just two weeks after Claxton set a personal-best in the event of 55.66.
Â
Also at Puerto Rico National Championships, Gutierrez Almedina qualified for finals first overall with a time of 21.75. In the finals, Gutierrez Almedina won his own Puerto Rico national title, crossing the finish line first in 21.30.
Â
Clarke competed in the JAAA/SDF Jubilee Series 2.3 at Jamaica College this weekend in the 100m dash.  In the first round, she advanced to the final round behind a wind-aided 11.26. In the final, Clarke ran a wind-legal 11.24, breaking her own school record of 11.42 set at the America East Outdoor Championships in May.
Â
Last week, current UAlbany student-athlete
