ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany softball team will head to Maryland for the TU Tiger Clash, March 11-13.

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany opened the 2022 season in Rock Hill, South Carolina at the Winthrop Eagles Tournament (Feb. 18-20) before competing in the 2022 Spring Games at Madeira Beach (Mar. 3-5).
  • In South Carolina, the Great Danes went 2-3 with wins against Winthrop and Ball State and losses against Robert Morris (twice) and Youngstown State.
  • UAlbany started last weekend with three wins - against Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, and Georgetown. The Great Danes fell against LIU and Southern Mississippi.
  • Morgan Petty leads the team batting 14-30 for a .467 batting average and a 1.033 slugging percentage. The junior owns a team-high four home runs and 12 RBI. For her efforts, Petty was named the America East Player of the Week after the first week of Great Dane competition.
  • Katie Falotico follows at the plate with a .364 batting average from 12 hits. The graduate student has notched more multi-base hits than singles with a team-high seven doubles, one triple, and one home run. 
  • Seeing eight starts and nine appearances, Alexis Phillips is tied with Petty for a team-high seven runs. Her .500 on base percentage is the best of the UAlbany batters.
  • On the mound, three Great Dane pitchers own an ERA less than 1.25. Briana Garrett leads, allowing zero earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched. Maranda Jimenez follows with a 1.07 ERA in 14.0 innings.
  • Garrett and Jimenez have each gone undefeated in the circle. Jimenez has two complete game wins while Garrett came into the Georgetown game with a losing score to lead her team to a victory.
  • Wendi Hammond leads with 25.2 innings in the circle, totaling a team-high 19 strikeouts.
  • Falotico leads in the field with 38 putouts while Lové Drumgole leads with 20 assists.
 
ABOUT MONMOUTH
  • The Hawks are 2-12 on the season.
  • Monmouth opened the season at the Spring Games, going 1-4, with a win over North Carolina and losses against Bethune-Cookman, Butler, Stetson, and Florida Atlantic.
  • Next, the Hawks saw four losses at the Chanticleer Showdown (Feb. 24-26). 
  • Most recently, Monmouth went 1-4 at the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge, seeing losses against FDU, North Florida (x2), and Saint Francis, beating FDU to close out the weekend.
  • Lindsey Baron leads the team with a .366 batting average and five doubles.
  • Overall, the Hawks have three homers - Baron, Julie Thuer, and Stavi Auger.
  • Kylie Gletow leads with a 4.11 ERA in 47.1 innings on the mound. With three complete games and 19 strikeouts, she owns a 1-4 record.
 
ABOUT TOWSON
  • The Tigers are 4-12 on the season.
  • Towson opened the season 0-8 with four losses at the Spartan Classic (Feb. 12-13) and four losses at the Winthrop Tournament (Feb. 18-19). 
  • The Tigers tallied their first win at Winthrop on Feb. 20 against Western Carolina.
  • After three losses at the UNCG Invitational (Feb. 25-26), Towson hosted their first tournament with three wins and one loss (Mar 4-6)
  • Sydni Byers leads with a .391 batting average, three doubles, and 10 RBI.
  • Three Tigers have tallied two home runs each - Byers, Nicole Kidwiler, and Mayson Peters.
  • Julie Jackson leads with a 4.29 ERA in 45.2 innings on the mound. With five complete games and 34 strikeouts, she owns a 2-5 record.
 
ABOUT BROWN
  • The Bears are 4-7 on the season.
  • After opening the season with five losses at the FIU Softball Invitational (Feb. 25-27), Brown saw a 4-1 record in Houston (Mar. 4-6).
  • The Bears tallied a single-game loss hosting Providence on Mar. 8.
  • Brown will host UMBC and Hofstra on Mar. 11 before heading to the TU Tiger Clash.
  • Alexis Guevara leads the team with a .333 batting average. 
  • Laurel Moody owns a team-high three home runs and five RBI.
  • Six pitchers have seen the circle for the Bears with Erin Elgas owning a 0.00 ERA in 5.1 innings. Guevara has seen the most time on the mound with 19.1 innings. Guevara has notched 11 strikeouts to lead the pitching team.
 
PICKED THIRD
  • The Great Danes were picked to finish third in the 2022 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • UAlbany tallied 27 points and no first-place votes.
  • UMBC topped the poll with 35 points and five first-place votes while Stony Brook followed with 29 points and two first-place votes.
  • Binghamton (20), UMass Lowell (18), Maine (12), and Hartford (6) followed to close out the poll.
