The UAlbany men's basketball team had an impressive first half against the No. 13 ranked Virginia Cavaliers, but second half woes saw the Great Danes eventually fall by a score of 66-46. UAlbany led by as much as four points in the opening frame before a scoring drought, that continued into the second half, killed all the team's momentum.

  • Gerald Drumgoole Jr. and Trey Hutcheson each finished with seven points.
  • UAlbany shot 30.8% (16-52) from the field and 22.2% (6-27) from three. Virginia shot 48.1% (25-52) from the field and 27.8% (5-18) from three.
  • Virginia won the rebounding war 38-30.
  • The Great Danes were 8-11 on free throws while the Cavaliers went just 11-20.

Scouting New Hampshire
The Wildcats were scheduled to play Dartmouth on Tuesday night, but the game was postponed due to COVID-19 procedures within the UNH program. With the postponement, the last game the Wildcats played came before the holiday break on Dec. 21, a 51-67 loss to Brown. Overall, UNH comes into Saturday's matchup with an overall record of 5-7.
  • UNH is averaging 67.1 points per game, allowing opponenets to an average of 65.1 points.
  • The team is shooting 39.1% from the field, 35.5% from three, and 74.1% from the charity stripe.
  • The Wildcats average 38.6 rebounds, 12.1 assists, and 10.5 turnovers.
  • Clarence Daniels, Matthew Herasme, and Trey Woodyard have started all 12 games for the Wildcats.
  • Daniels averages a double-double per game. He leads the team in scoring (16.0), rebounding (11.3), and assists (1.6). He is shooting 44.4% from the field and 45.2% from deep.
  • Nick Johnson and Kyree Brown are the two other Wildcats averaging double-figures when it comes to scoring. Johnson averages 12.4 points per contest while Brown averages 10.6 per contest.

#AEHoops Notes (12.27.22)
America East men's hoops teams wrap up non-conference play this week before the league schedule kicks off on Saturday.

UMass Lowell beat Boston University to improve to 12-2 on the season and will take its best-ever record into league play. UMBC plays at Maryland on ESPNU on Wednesday and will take a six-game win streak into that contest. Bryant beat CAA-favorite Towson last week to improve to 9-4.

Conference play kicks off Saturday with the first of 72 league games kicking off. Conference positioning will again prove key for the Jersey Mikes #AEPlayoffs. Every round of the Jersey Mikes #AEPlayoffs will take place on the higher seed's home court and earning home court advantage will prove crucial once again.

The league champion will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, where America East teams have won nine games all-time, including UMBC's historic upset of Virginia in 2018.

Coming off winning it's league-best ninth men's basketball title, Vermont is the favorite in the 2022-23 America East Men's Basketball preseason poll. The Catamounts, who also claimed their league-record sixth-straight regular-season title last season, edged out league newcomer Bryant atop the poll. Vermont and Bryant combined to claim four of the six preseason All-Conference team members, which was also unveiled with the poll.

Binghamton's Jacob Falko is the lone returning first-team All-America East team member from last season on the preseason All-League squad. He is joined by UMass Lowell's Max Brooks along with Bryant's Charles Pride, a first-team all-NEC choice last year, and Earl Timberlake, as well as Vermont's Dylan Penn and Finn Sullivan.
