NEW YORK – The University at Albany track & field program fielded its men's and women's 4x200m relay at Saturday's Millrose Games, continuing the Great Danes' first presence at the indoor season's most prestigious meet since the 2015 season. Both the men and women were the top-performing collegiate teams in their respective races, and the women set a new school record.
The women's race kicked off first, at 12:00 p.m. The team of
Dee Denis (24.8),
Rori Lowe (24.3),
Brynley McDermott (24.72), and
Imani Gray (24.76) set a new school record of 1:39.00, breaking the previous record of 1:39.05 set in 2013 at the Millrose Games by Jillian Haynes, Annie Johnson, Kahlia Taylor, and Allison Rogers.
Denis handed off in fourth place after her opening leg, and Lowe moved into third at the second exchange. The women held third place through the finish line, finishing behind GTSC New Balance (1:38.23) and TrackLife (1:38.72)
The men's race began at 12:04 p.m., and the men finished in second place with a time of 1:29.25 behind GSTC New Balance (1:28.52).
Jan Michael Gutierrez Almedina (21.7) handed off in first place at the first exchange, and by the second exchange,
Yourry Tapande-Ngombe (22.5) handed off in second.
Nicardo Blake (22.47) and Shakur Williams (22.16) held second to finish in the runner-up position.
The Great Danes return to the Armory next week for the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge.
