Short Story: The University at Albany women's golf team saw its season come to a close with a second-place finish at the 2021 MAAC Golf Championship. Sunday's final round was reduced to nine holes due to weather, squashing any chance of a comeback for the Great Danes early in the day. The team finished with a total score of +48, falling to Quinnipiac (+30) by 18 strokes and beating out third-place Dayton (+55) by seven strokes. Graduate student
Megan Henry led the team after finishing tied for seventh place, followed by freshman
Amber Thornton securing her own top-10 finish in ninth.
Coach Colleen Cashman-McSween: "I would definitely say that everyone is disappointed we didn't bring home the championship. Sadly, the day was cut short because of the weather, so it didn't really give us a chance to make up ground today. We didn't make enough birdies to balance out the high scores we made. But, I'm very proud of Megan and Amber for leading the team and making the All-Conference team. This was a very challenging year, both fall and spring dealing with COVID-19 issues and multiple tests per week. I'm super proud to say that we didn't have one positive test during either semester in session. So even though we didn't bring home the trophy, for us to be able to have traveled this spring and play the MAAC Championship at Disney World, I feel like it was a win in a way. Just makes us want to work harder for next season!"
