ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Roberto Vives has been inducted into the Greater Capital Region Track, Field, and Cross Country Hall of Fame as part of its third class. Vives was one of three UAlbany representatives, alongside Jeoffrey York ('96) and Frank Myers ('68), inducted with the full class of 11.
Vives has coached at UAlbany since 1985, guiding the Great Danes to 57 total America East conference championships, 33 men's and 24 women's, four IC4A championships, and three ECAC championships. In his 35 years at UAlbany, Vives has been named USTFCCCA Northeast Regional Coach of the year eight times. Earlier in his career, Vives was named CTC Coach of the Year 11 times, and in 1994, Vives was the recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.
York is a five-time NCAA Champion and NCAA Division III record-holder in the 110m hurdles. He still holds the all-time program records for the 55m and 110m hurdles, and ranks fifth all-time in the 60m hurdles.
Myers has coached boys and girls track & field and cross country at Colonie High School for the last 51-straight years, winning girls' cross country state titles in 1986 and 1999. He is a charter member of the Capital District Track Officials, the President of the Tri-Country Indoor Track League, and has hosted Colonie High School's Tuesday Night Community Summer Track Series for the last 51 years.
The third Hall of Fame Class will be inducted on Saturday, September 26 at the Albany Marriott on Wolf Road. Ticket sales will be announced at a later date.
Founded in 2018, the Hall of Fame was founded to provide recognition to those athletes, coaches, and officials who have achieved superlative performances or have made significant contributions to the history and growth of track & field and cross country in the Greater Capital Region.
