Short story: Despite five goals from senior attacker Emma Powlin, the University at Albany women's lacrosse team fell to No. 1-ranked Stony Brook, 21-8, on Saturday at Casey Stadium. With the win, Stony Brook secured the top seed and right to host the America East tournament. The Great Danes, who finished the regular season in second place, will face third-place Binghamton in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday.

Emma Powlin's five goals and Sam Tortora's six points weren't enough to get the University at Albany women's lacrosse team past No. 1-ranked Stony Brook in a 21-8 defeat Saturday at Casey Stadium.
Stony Brook's victory gives the Seawolves (17-0, 7-0 America East) the top seed and right to host the America East Tournament, which begins Friday with the semifinals and concludes with Sunday's final.
The Great Danes finish as the second seed and face Binghamton in the semifinals at 7 p.m. UAlbany won the regular season meeting between the teams, 12-10, in Albany.
Against Stony Brook, Powlin scored five or more goals for the fourth time this season. Tortora (one goal, five assists) set up four of Powlin's goals.
Kyla Zapolski and Hannah Newman scored the other two goals for UAlbany.
Stony Brook started fast, opening a 4-0 lead just 3 minutes, 20 seconds into the game.
UAlbany was able to narrow the lead to 5-3, with Powlin scoring all three goals. But the Great Danes never got closer. Stony Brook pushed the lead to 12-6 at halftime and then scored the first four goals of the second half, extending the lead to 16-6.
Powlin and Newman scored the second-half goals for UAlbany.
Erin Leghart stopped 10 shots in the cage.
