Madison Conway and Sam Tortora each had a pair of goals for the University at Albany women's lacrosse team, but it wasn't enough to overcome a big halftime deficit in a 17-7 loss to No. 17 Penn State on Sunday at Casey Stadium.
The Nittany Lions (4-3), of the Big Ten, built a 13-3 halftime lead after scoring four straight to goals heading into the intermission.
Emma Powlin, Kaylee Rickert and Kyla Zapolski scored a goal apiece for UAlbany (0-6). Powlin added a pair of assists.
The teams were tied at 1 after Powlin's goal two minutes into the game. But Penn State ran off six straight over a 7-minute, 14-second stretch to open a 7-1 advantage with 13:53 left before the intermission.
The Nittany Lions later had a seven-goal run bridging the first and second halves to lead by as many as 14.
The Great Danes scored the game's final four goals, including two from Tortora.
