Track & Field Wraps Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After opening competition at the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas Friday, the University at Albany track & field program wrapped up their time at the Razorbacks' facility with the second day of the meet, which featured performances from eight Great Danes.

The only track event of the day for UAlbany was the men's 4x400m relay.  Last week, the quartet of Momodou Jobe, Matthew LeLiever, Jason Tomlinson, and Myles Banfield ran 3:08.49 at Boston University's Scarlet & White Invitational to set a new indoor school record and earn the 24th fastest time in the country this season.  Saturday, the order was shifted somewhat on the back end, with Tomlinson and Banfield swapping places.

The Danes were seeded in a heat with Purdue, Utah State, and Houston.  UAlbany placed third in their heat, and third overall in the collegiate section of the event, finishing with a time of 3:08.83.  Jobe led off in 47.9, LeLiever split 47.5, Banfield split 46.8, and Tomlinson anchored in 46.4.

The remaining events on Saturday for UAlbany were field events.  Kingsley Ogbonna placed second in the high jump, clearing 6-11.50.  Matthew Campbell placed third in the invitational section of the high jump, clearing 7-02.50, which is a lifetime best, surpassing his previous mark of 7-02.25 from NCAA Outdoor Championships last June.

Anika Hibbard also competed in the high jump, placing second in the women's event, clearing 5-08.75.  The mark is an indoor personal best and new indoor school record, surpassing the previous mark of 5-08.50 set in 2013 by Rochelle Reid.

The final Great Dane to compete at Tyson was Devon Willis in the triple jump.  Willis placed second overall in a lifetime best of 51-08.50, which ties the indoor school record set in 2009 by Michael McCadney.

The next time UAlbany will compete will be at the America East Indoor Championships in two weeks.
