ALBANY, N.Y.—After a week of rest from the Eastern Preliminaries, two members of the University at Albany track and field team will continue their season this weekend at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Matthew Campbell and Grace Claxton are the sole Great Danes to qualify for this prestigious meet from June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.

Both athletes qualified within the top 12 of their event in the NCAA East Preliminary Round to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

In the 400m hurdles, Senior Grace Claxton earned second place in the first of three quarterfinal heats in 55.90. Her time broke the school record of 56.69 she previously set and qualified her for the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she will represent her home country, Puerto Rico. Her performance gave her an automatic spot in the NCAA Championships. 

Junior Matthew Campbell qualified in the men's high jump with an overall fourth place finish. His mark of 7'-1.5” set a new personal record and advanced him to the NCAA Championships.

The semifinals for the women's 400m hurdles is set for Thursday, June 9 at 6:30 p.m. PT, and the men's high jump will follow on Friday, June 10 at 5:00 p.m. PT.
