Women's Lacrosse Sets America East Championship Date with Stony Brook in 19-3 Victory Over UMBC

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – University at Albany women's lacrosse (11-5) will make its sixth consecutive trip to the America East title game Sunday afternoon, following a dominating 19-3 performance against UMBC (9-8) on Friday night in the semifinals. Six Great Danes tallied four points or more, and freshman Kaylee Rickert matched the single-game tournament record in assists with five.
The Purple & Gold kicked off the game with four goals from different Danes in five minutes. Alie Jimerson, Dakotah Savitcheff, Sarah Martin and Rachel Bowles combined to get UAlbany out to a five-goal lead. With the five-goal advantage, seven unique players registered at least one point. Helping John Battaglino's squad make the most of every possession, Julie Cryderman, Martin and Christine Johnson put in work at the draw control circle; sealing off four of the first draw controls.
Despite two goals from UMBC mid-way through the first half, UAlbany responded with seven-straight unanswered goals to end the period up 13-2. Emily Mizer cashed in on three of four goals as the clock ticked under 10 minutes. The Great Danes out-shot UMBC 21-9 in the first half, and out-drew the Retrievers 10-5.
With time of possession favoring the Great Danes, the defense still held strong with a big lead. Mizer, Martin and Savitcheff forced takeaways in the midfield with the score at 15-2. Andrea Flood forced UMBC out of bounds and sent America East Co-Defensive Player of the Year Johnson up field for another UAlbany goal. Martin notched the score from Jimerson for her third tally of the contest.
After an impressive showing on the draw, Cryderman knocked in her second goal with 15 minutes left to make the score 17-2. Rickert registered the assist for her fourth of the game. The freshman recorded a new single-game career high in assists with five on the 19th goal of the contest for the Danes.
Along with a season-high 35 team points on a season-best 19 goals, seven different Great Danes scored and eight recorded points. Additionally, 11 players caused at least one turnover.
All-Conference goalkeeper Courtney Henderson allowed just two goals with six saves in 54 minutes of game action.
