BOX SCORE

BALTIMORE, MD. – University at Albany women's lacrosse (7-3, 3-0 AE) picked up its third win in conference play on Saturday afternoon with a 16-6 win at UMBC (7-5, 1-2 AE). The Great Danes defeated its third conference opponent by 10 goals or more in the victory.

UAlbany wasted no time setting the tone on the road, getting out to a 5-0 lead to kick off the contest. Dakotah Savitcheff cashed in for the first two goals from Sarah Martin with less than three minutes expired in the first half. Savitcheff would return the favor to Martin for the fourth goal of the run, but Bowles converted unassisted for a 3-0 edge at the 25:03 mark.

In the midst of the Purple & Gold's 5-0 unanswered run, Courtney Henderson recorded three saves to stifle any UMBC offensive momentum off the draw. The Great Danes eventually found their momentum at the circle courtesy of Julie Cryderman, Christine Johnson and Savitcheff.

That momentum continued to the offensive end for Rachel Bowles, as the graduate student had two shots narrowly miss the mark mid-way through the half. Bowles battled through, finding the back of the cage for her second score of the game and 20th of the year with 13:15 on the clock in the first half.

Bowles's goal sparked a 5-2 run to end the half, as she tallied two more goals before the opening stanza expired. Savitcheff fired on target from Heidenreich with 12 minutes to go, and the junior-to-junior tandem of Savitcheff and Martin made the score 8-3 UAlbany less than five minutes later.

The Purple & Gold held a 10-4 edge at the half, including a 17-13 advantage in shots and an 8-5 lead at the circle.

The teams traded free position opportunities to open the second half, as Savitcheff converted from the eight-meter line five minutes in. The Retrievers got two goals back, but the Great Danes responded with a five-goal spurt to end the contest. Emily Mizer knocked a goal and an assist down the stretch, while sophomore attack Alie Jimerson exploded for three assists on the final three goals for John Battaglino's squad.

The Great Danes defense allowed just two shots on goal in the final 15 minutes of the game. Courtney Henderson recorded nine saves between the pipes to match a season high.

With seven goals against the Retrievers, Dakotah Savitcheff met her single-game career high for the fifth time. The junior leads the team in goals with 40 to date in 2015-16. She has scored 142 goals in her career.

Rachel Bowles matched the all-time career goals record at UAlbany with a four-goal performance at UMBC, tallying 160 scores. The graduate student and Tewaaraton nominee has notched 16 points in three conference games.

In a 3-0 America East start, Battaglino's defense has allowed just 16 goals (5.33 GPG). Savitcheff is averaging six goals per game, while Sarah Martin and Julie Cryderman have posted a dominating performance on draw controls with 25 between the pair. In 10 contests, Martin has already surpassed her draw control total from last season, and leads the squad with 34 draw wins.

Next up, UAlbany women's lacrosse hosts No. 4/4 Syracuse (11-3, 4-1 ACC) on Tuesday, April 12, at 3:00 p.m., from John Fallon Field. Catch all the action from the opening draw on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Chris Watson and Zach Bye.
