BOX SCORE

ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany women's lacrosse (6-3, 2-0 AE) is out to an undefeated start in conference play following a 14-4 win at the hands of Binghamton (4-8, 0-2 AE) on Wednesday afternoon. Midfielder Rachel Bowles tallied seven points on three goals and four assists to lead the way offensively for the Great Danes.

The Purple & Gold used a 4-0 run to take control of the game early. Sarah Martin scooped up the opening draw control, and 15 seconds later cashed in on an assist from Bowles. Following four Binghamton fouls, Dakotah Savitcheff ripped a free position shot for a 2-0 UAlbany advantage at the 26:39 mark.

Rachel Bowles recorded her first goal of the day shortly after a caused turnover by Martin. The graduate student got the Great Danes out to a 3-0 lead from Emily Mizer. After another solid defensive play by Sierra McIver, UAlbany took advantage on the other end with a tally by Rachel Heidenreich.

Despite the fast start, the Great Danes went 16 minutes without a goal in the first half. Albany native Rebecca Golderman brought Binghamton within two, 4-2 with less than five minutes to play.

The Purple & Gold ended the scoring drought following a free position shot-and-save by Courtney Henderson. John Battaglino called timeout, and Julie Cryderman executed from Bowles just before the end of the half.

Savitcheff once again made quick work of the start of the period, scoring from Martin just 30 seconds into the second half.

Cryderman, Savitcheff and Kaylee Rickert knocked on the door to kick off the final 30 minutes, but the score remained 6-3 after 10 minutes had expired. UAlbany went on an eight-goal spurt to secure a double-digit lead and a running clock with 10 minutes to play. In the midst of the eight-goal run, half of the tallies came as direct free positions or a pass off of the arc. Martin, Bowles and Savitcheff converted off the eight-meter line mid-way through the period.

Cryderman and Rickert also came alive in the second stanza, as Cryderman tallied two goals and Rickert recorded three assists. Battaglino's squad committed just two turnovers in the final 20 minutes, and out-shot Binghamton 15-7.

Rachel Bowles's three goals put the graduate student tied for second all-time at UAlbany in career tallies with 156. She needs five more to pass Maria Ferrucci for the record. Dakotah Savitcheff ranks fifth in Division I program history with 128 goals after Wednesday's four-goal performance. Sarah Martin had four points on three goals and one assist, three ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.

On the defensive end, Christine Johnson finished her day with three caused turnovers, three draws and three ground balls. Courtney Henderson made seven saves between the pipes.

Next up, UAlbany women's lacrosse continues America East play with a visit to UMBC (7-3, 1-0 AE) at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday.
