Rachel Bowles Breaks UAlbany Women's Lacrosse All-Time Career Points Record in 14-1 Defeat of Wagner

BOX SCORE
ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany women's lacrosse (3-2) downed Wagner (1-6) by a score of 14-1 on Saturday afternoon, led by five goals from graduate student Rachel Bowles. The midfielder and Tewaaraton nominee became the all-time program career leader in points with 193 in the victory.
Bowles got the ball rolling on UAlbany's 12-goal unanswered run. The Seahawks gave the top returning offensive player for the Danes too much room out of the left corner, and Bowles took to the cage for her first score of the day.
Junior Dakotah Savitcheff kept her multi-goal game streak going against Wagner, netting four goals including two in the first half. Savitcheff dialed in from Sarah Martin for three of the four, and knocked in one free position shot. Bowles and Savitcheff scored the first six goals of the game to take a 6-0 advantage.
In the midst of its 7-0 first-half lead, UAlbany won five consecutive draw controls off the sticks of Martin, Christine Johnson and Julie Cryderman. The Great Danes went over 10 minutes without a turnover to retain possession and maintain its dominating lead. Meanwhile, the Purple & Gold caused seven of Wagner's 10 turnovers in the opening period. In addition to her two first-half assists, Martin also recorded two caused turnovers.
UAlbany continued to exploit the seams in Wagner's defense, particularly down the middle. Emma Powlin tallied her first goal of the game from Cryderman with less than three minutes to go. John Battaglino's squad out-shot Wagner 12-2 in the opening stanza, and forced the Seahawks into three failed clears for second-chance opportunities.
The Great Danes fired fast and furious to open the second half, scoring four goals in just over five minutes. Alie Jimerson notched two goals in the midst of the five-minute spurt, unassisted. Powlin made good on a free position shot shortly after to make the UAlbany lead 12-0 with 18 minutes to play.
Bowles's record-breaking point came on her fifth goal of the day, faking left and going right down the middle for a low shot into the corner. The graduate student recorded her 146th career goal. Bowles passed Kate Fontana (2004-07) to top the all-time leaderboard in career points. She is 11 goals shy of snapping Fontana's Division I career goals record, and 15 away from setting a new all-time mark.
With one assist, Alie Jimerson is in sole possession of fifth in the Division I ranks at UAlbany in career assists (48). Dakotah Savitcheff netted her 112th goal on Saturday afternoon.
Next up, UAlbany women's lacrosse visits No. 20 UMass (6-1) on Wednesday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m.
