Men's Basketball Records 100 Points for First Time Against a Division I Opponent, Routs Maine 108-64

BOX SCORE
ALBANY, N.Y. – Netting 100 points or more for the first time since the 2000-01 season, University at Albany men's basketball (21-7, 10-3 AE) defeated Maine (8-18, 4-9 AE) by a score of 108-64 on Sunday afternoon. The Great Danes now hold a 17-game home winning streak entering Wednesday's contest against league-leading Stony Brook.
“We did a good job of executing the scouting report,” said head coach Will Brown. “We wanted to take away driving lanes and make them a contested jump-shooting team. I thought our defense helped us make stops and get out in transition and for easy buckets. We'll put this one in our back pocket and move on to Wednesday.”
Both teams started off slow from the field, shooting a combined 3-for-10 (.300) as UAlbany got out to a 6-2 advantage. The Danes committed five turnovers in the first four minutes of the game, but Maine couldn't convert on the other end. The Black Bears went 2-for-10 (.200) from the field with five turnovers to kick off the game, and UAlbany opened up an 18-5 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half.
After Ray Sanders drained a three to make it a 21-7 game, the Purple & Gold survived a 2-for-7 shooting clip thanks to 10 minutes without a turnover. Brown's squad committed just two miscues in the final 16 minutes of the half to net its largest first-half point total of the season with 51 points.
Sanders scored 13 points to top UAlbany; Evan Singletary recorded eight points, five assists and five rebounds in the opening 20 minutes of play.
From the end of the first stanza, the Danes went on a 25-2 spurt to put the contest out of reach for Maine. With eight minutes to go, Brown's squad was shooting 77.3% from the field in the second half, amassing a 90-52 edge.
As the starting line-up began to make its exit, Jamir Andrews dropped a three to put UAlbany over the century mark with 3:47 on the clock. The Purple & Gold eventually took an America East-era program record 44-point win, 108-64.
Against the Black Bears, the Great Danes set new single-game Division I records in points (108) and field goals made (41). Their 51 rebounds is third in Division I program history, including a rebounding margin of +26. The 21-assist mark ranks fifth in the D-I program record book.
UAlbany notched its second 100+-point game in the Division I era, the other being a 101-55 victory against Green Mountain in 2000. The Danes last netted 108 points on Jan. 25, 2000 in a home contest against Southern Vermont, a 108-84 win. The highest point total for UAlbany in the NCAA era came against Ithaca on Feb. 1, 1975, a 111-94 win.
With three steals, Ray Sanders matches his single-season steal total from one season ago at 45. He is tied for seventh in Division I history in the category. The senior dropped an additional 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Evan Singletary finished with 11 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Dallas Ennema and Richard Peters joined Sanders with seven rebounds apiece.
Next up, UAlbany men's basketball looks to end Stony Brook's nation-leading 18-game winning streak at SEFCU Arena on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The game will be available on ESPN3/WatchESPN App.
