Baseball Slips In Series Finale vs. UMass Lowell, 5-0

ALBANY, N.Y. — After a heavy offensive showing in game two of yesterday's doubleheader, the University at Albany baseball team and their bats were unable to have the same output, falling to UMass Lowell, 5-0, Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field.
The Great Danes are now 13-22 overall, (6-8 America East), while the River Hawks jumped up to 14-23 (10-7 America East).
To lead off Mathew Sanchez was walked by started Joe Romero, who then in the next at-bat stole second and advanced to third on a balk. Eventually, Sanchez would come home thanks to a sacrifice fly to center field by Joe Consolmagno.
In the second frame, the River Hawks added two more runs to put them up 3-0. Kelly Rooney laid down a sacrifice bunt towards Romero, which let Matt Mottola come in from third. After an infield throwing error, Nick Barry was able to score, coming all the way around from second.
In the third inning, Ian Storm singled down the left field line to bring in Danny Mendick, putting UMass Lowell up 4-0.
In the fourth, the River Hawks solidified their victory as Barry added his second run of the day, crossing the plate on an infield groundout.
Cameron Sorgie had a solid day on the mound in relief for Romero, pitching 5.2 innings and managed to strikeout 11 batters. Taking the loss, Romero (2-2), tossed the opening 2.1 innings, allowing three earned runs.
Steve Xirnachs (1-2) grabbed the win for the River Hawks, tossing 2.0 relief innings and picked up three strikeouts.
Alex Lushkevich, Will Miller, Matt Hinchy and Brendan Behan all recorded hits for the Great Danes, while Shawn Blake drew two walks.
UAlbany will head on the road for their next four games, first a rematch with St. John's on Tuesday, May 5th and a weekend series with UMBC beginning May 9th.
