Women's Lacrosse Falls To UMBC In Conference Opener, 8-5

Baltimore, Md.- Jess Antelmi tallied three points, two goals and an assist, in UAlbany's loss against Maryland-Baltimore County, 8-5, on Saturday, March 24. UAlbany falls to 6-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference while UMBC improves to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

UMBC opened the game 3-0 through the first 14 minutes. The Retreiver's Alicia Krause scored the game's first goal then was followed by Taeler Errington and Kirsten Bilney.

UAlbany bounced back with two goals to cut the deficit to 1, 3-2, both goals from the stick of Jess Antelmi for her 17th and 18th goals of the season.

The Retrievers ended the half with a goal with 30 seconds left in the half by Abby Wilson to go up two, 4-2.

The Great Danes came out in the second half with two qoals in three minutes by Rachal Burek and Amanda Pollock to tie the game at four.

UMBC responded with three goals in a span of four minutes to go up three, 7-4, with 13:07 remaining in the game. Kristen Bilney would score two of the three goals during that run which gave her a hat trick on the day. Bilney's third goal at 15:23 would be the game-winner.

UAlbany's Rachel Burek would add to score with her second goal of the game with 12:25 left but the Great Danes would not score in the final 12 minutes to fall short.

UMBC lead UAlbany in shots 25-17 and ground balls 15-11.

UAlbany continues the 2012 schedule with its final non-conference game against Stanford on Friday, March 30.
