UAlbany Gets Help From Iati For The Second Straight Game In Win Over Binghamton, 74-63

Vestal, N.Y.- 20-plus point efforts from both Jacob Iati and Mike Black helped UAlbany men's basketball defeat Binghamton, 74-63, on Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Events Center. Iati was able to one-up is previous career-high performance of 20 points against Rider with a game-high and career-high 22 points. Gerardo Suero, with 15 points, passed Jamar Wilson's program record of most points scored in a season (620) with 629 points currently.
      The Great Danes had four scorers in double-digits and two with 20-plus point performances. Both Iati and Black each scored over 20 in contest with 22 and 21, respectively. Suero collected his second career double, recording 15 points and 11 rebounds while going 10-of-12 from the free- throw line. The Great Danes out rebounded the Bearcats, 29-21.
     The Bearcats Ben Dickinson led his team in scoring with 21 points, 9-of-10 from the free throw line, and four rebounds. Taylor Johnston and Jimmy Gray were the two other Binghamton players to tally double-figures with 12 and 11, respectively. Binghamton, even with the loss, out shot UAlbany from the field, 51.1 to 47.8 percent.
     UAlbany came out firing from behind the arc to go up early, 14-7, with 13:57 left in the first half. Jacob Iati and Jayson Guerrier each had two threes during the stretch. The Great Danes would extend their led to as much as 11 points, 32-21, with 1:29 remaining in the half. The lead was capped by Tanner Gibson assisting to Guerrier and finishing with an emphatic dunk.
     Iati would lead all scorers at the half with 12 points, shooting 3-of-4 from behind the arc. The Great Danes would have the slight edge in shooting over the Bearcats, 45.5 to 44.4. UAlbany would have a plus-eight margin in rebounding, 16-8, with Gerardo Suero leading all players with five.
     UAlbany would take its halftime lead of 11, 34-23, and push it up to as much as 15, 55-40, with 10:43 left in the game by a string of threes by Suero and Iati.
     Binghamton's Jimmy Gray would look to keep the game within reach by hitting a deep three from the top of the arc to cut the deficit to seven, 67-60, with 1:30 remaining in the game.
     But UAlbany would finish out the game shooting 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
     The Great Danes finish out the regular season at 18-13 overall and 9-7 in the conference. UAlbany will be the number four seed in the America East Conference Tournament and wait to see whether they face the Hartford Hawks or the New Hampshire Wildcats in the first round on March 3.
