Late-Game Push Proves Successful at Colgate

SHORT STORY: The UAlbany field hockey team scored three goals in the fourth quarter to take a late-game lead on their way to a victory over Colgate, Friday evening.
 
KEY STATS
  • Sophomore Jette Kurz led with four points off one goal and two assists.
  • Freshman Quinty Reumer scored twice.
  • Senior Mara Küskes tallied a team-high three assists.
  • Sophomore Mathilda Prada added one goal.
  • UAlbany outshot Colgate, 19-8, including a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal and 11-5 advantage in penalty corners.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first quarter, Colgate scored first during a penalty corner about eight minutes into the second.
  • The Raiders held the one-goal lead through halftime and much of the third quarter.
  • With just over one minute in the third, the Great Danes tied the score during a penalty corner. After a rebounded shot, Mathilda Prada went for a back-handed tip to earn the unassisted game-tying goal.
  • Three minutes into the final quarter, UAlbany when Quinty Reumer scored off a sweep during a penalty corner.
  • Assisted by Jette Kurz and Mara Küskes for both, Reumer repeated her goal four minutes later.
  • On a roll, the Great Danes scored their fourth goal in a nine-minute period. Taking the ball of the insert from Küskes, Kurz drove the ball straight into the back of the net.
  • Colgate got the last say to make it 4-2 but it wasn't enough and UAlbany earned the win.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will continue on the road and face Yale on Sunday (September 6).
