Great Danes Surge Late to Draw with Stony Brook

Short Story: The UAlbany women's soccer team overcame a 2-nil deficit to draw with Stony Brook Wednesday afternoon.
 
Key Stat Lines
  • Meredith Blannett netted her first goal of the year and tallied six shots.
  • Kiara Levac also found the back of the net and added four shots.
  • Sydney Kofton led the Great Danes with 11 shots, including eight headers and five shots on goal.
  • As a team, UAlbany outshot Stony Brook 30-16, with the Great Danes landing 11 on goal compared to the Seawolves four.
 
How it Happened:
  • Sydney Kofton took UAlbany's first shot in the 5th minute.
  • Goalie Claudia Volino made her first save in the 24th minute.
  • In the 25th minute, the Seawolves nearly took the lead when a shot from Maya Corbett hit the post and bounced out, however the score remained even at zero.
  • The Great Danes fired off six shots over the remainder of the half but were unable to find the back of the net, so the score remained nil-nil headed into the second half.
  • In the 56th minute, the Seawolves broke the stalemate with a goal to make it 1-nil.
  • Stony Brook extended the lead in the 71st minute with a goal to push the score to 2-nil.
  • UAlbany answered back when Meredith Blannett found the back of the net in the 80th minute to make it 2-1.
  • The Great Danes tied up the game seven minutes later when Kiara Levac was able to score and even the score at 2-2.
  • UAlbany attempted a corner kick during the closing seconds of the game, but were unable to score, thus the game ended as a 2-2 draw.
 
Up Next: UAlbany is set to travel to Orono, Maine to take on the Black Bears Sunday, September 20. Kickoff is set for 12:00 pm at Alumni Field.
