BOSTON - University at Albany freshman forward
Oluchi Njoku has been named the America East Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week, following her performance against Quinnipiac Saturday evening, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Njoku originally subbed into the match in the 36
th minute and made an impact moving the ball up the field and creating chances. Later, she was subbed back onto the field in the 82
nd minute of the game. Just over three minutes later, Quinnipiac's Bianca D'Onofrio was called for a push, on Njoku, in the box, leading to a penalty kick for the Great Danes which Njoku successfully converted. This was the first goal of her collegiate career.
The award marks the first America East weekly honor of Njoku's career and the first Rookie of the Week honor for the Great Danes this season.
UAlbany returns to action Thursday, September 3, as the Great Danes host Stonehill. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.
