Great Danes Late-Game Heroics Power Win Over Boston College

SHORT STORY: The University at Albany field hockey team scored a pair of late goals to take down Boston College, Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Boston College was first on the board when they scored at the 6:44 mark of the first quarter to make it 1-0 early.
  • The Eagles took three shots on four corners within the first three and a half minutes of the second quarter, but the Great Dane defense kept them off the board to keep the score at 1-0.
  • UAlbany evened the score when a shot from Pilar Lorenzini was deflected to Lillian Willis, who netted her first goal of the season to tie it up at 1-1 with less than four minutes left in the half.
  • Three minutes later, Mara Küskes scored her first of the season on a corner to put the Great Danes up 2-1 heading into the half. 
  • The third quarter came and went without a score, despite five corner attempts from Boston College, and UAlbany held a 2-1 advantage going into the final quarter.
  • The Eagles tied up the game 15 seconds into the fourth on a corner to even the score at 2-2.
  • Just over eight minutes later, Boston College retook the lead with a goal during a corner to make it 3-2 with six and a half minutes to go.
  • The Great Danes answered back when Victoria Derdoy scored when she tipped in a shot from Quinty Reumer to once again tie it up, 3-3.
  • With less than one minute left, Reumer netted what would be the game-winning goal with assists from Jette Kurz and Küskes to put UAlbany ahead, 4-3.
  • The Eagles battled the last 40 seconds of the game, but were ultimately unable to score and the game went to the Great Danes. 
 
NEXT: The Great Danes are set to head on the road for four consecutive games. First stop - Colgate (Sept. 4).
