SHORT STORY: After an explosive six-run second inning, the Great Danes continued to expand their lead before taking the game in five innings, Sunday afternoon.
KEY STATS
- Senior Sara Anderson led the team with three hits and one walk to get on base during all four plate appearances. She earned two RBI and two runs.
- Junior Taylor Quinn scored three runs with two hits and two RBI.
- Freshman Katie Parisi tallied a team-high four RBI with one hit, a home run.
- Sophomore Hailey Errichiello earned the game start. Sophomore Hayley Wieczerzak came in during the second inning and threw four strikeouts while letting no one on base in 3.1 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams earned at least one hit in the first inning but the Great Danes were the first on the scoreboard in the top of the second with six total runs.
- Senior Kasey Conn singled to load the bases and Taylor Quinn followed with a two-RBI single for the first runs of the game. Almost immediately, sophomore Ava Beal scored on a wild pitch.
- Katie Parisi put the cap on the inning with a three-run homer.
- Maine answered with three runs in the bottom of the second.
- After Quinn hit a double, Sara Anderson brought her in for the seventh run in the third inning.
- With just seven pitches, the Great Dane defense ended the third with a 7-3 lead.
- UAlbany added an eighth run in the fourth with a single from freshman Julia Pike and an RBI single from Anderson.
- The Great Danes added what proved to be the final three runs of the game in the top of the fifth.
- Hayley Wieczerzak opened the bottom of the fifth with a strikeout before turning a double play to end the game, 11-3.
NEXT: UAlbany is set to compete in the America East Tournament. Scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 6, the Great Danes will see their first game against the fourth-seeded River Hawks of UMass Lowell at 11 am.
