About Richard "Doc" Sauers
While Richard "Doc" Sauers is most famously remembered as a legendary men's basketball head coach who accumulated 702 wins over 41 seasons, his incredible impact on UAlbany athletics extended heavily onto the golf course. Following his legendary basketball tenure, Doc served as the men's and women's golf coach from 1997 until 2012. During his leadership on the links, he guided the Great Danes through the program's vital transition from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I and was honored as the America East Coach of the Year in 2010.
Â
Spanning more than six decades of service to the Purple and Gold, Doc embodied the core philosophy of his famous mantra, "We Go, Not Ego," which emphasized teamwork and the collective over the individual. As the women's golf program takes to Normanside Country Club for the tournament bearing his name, his enduring legacy of leadership, class, and dedication continues to inspire the Great Danes.

Hear from Coach Cashman
"Hosting the Doc Sauers Invitational this weekend is special for so many reasons. Playing golf in our hometown in front of our friends and family is always the highlight of our fall season. Being able to honor Doc this year makes it truly even more special for me personally. The team is excited and ready to go, and hopefully, we can bring home the trophy and celebrate everyone's hard work and determination!"
